My brother-in-law is a state trooper in Salem and was one of the first responders to the shootings at Virginia Tech. He also had the misfortune of being there without his bullet proof vest which he mistakingly left at home because he didn't plan on being out on patrol that day, instead he planned on doing paper work in the office. This tragedy hit much closer to home for my family than I would have ever imagined.
That being said, I have never considered this a sports related issue. This was about one person's bad decision affecting the lives of many. It's unfortunate that we have a tendency in this country to drag every situation we deem as a tragedy into a sporting event. If anything I think it keeps people from fully being able to move on because every year we heap unnecessary pressure on the team that represents the school or city in which the tragedy most affected to almost help people heal faster or more effectively than time itself actually can.
I'm all for offering prayers and support to Virginia Tech but just because a baseball game falls on the anniversary of a tragedy doesn't mean the Flames shouldn't go hope there and try to win the game or that Liberty fans shouldn't support their team.

Liberty students will always be like this. They don't understand what school spirit is. They would rather reach out and try to be as loving as possible towards every team to make them feel welcome than cheer their own team on. They worry more what other people think than supporting Liberty.

I'm all for honoring the memories of the victims by letting law abiding students take guns to class and stopping insane psychopaths in their tracks instead of letting them gun students down like ducks at an amusement park game by stripping them of their second amendment rights when they walk through the school house doors and turning them into defenseless targets for anyone that feels like breaking the law.

the first, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th amendments dont stop at the school house door. why should the 2nd?
