5-3 was the final in 11 innings. I watched the Davidson game on TV and then drove over to watch the 9th, 10th, & 11th innings. I even saw Knuckle there with his 2 boys. Impressive crowd (3,183 was what was announced, but if you count me, it was 3,184), and there were plenty of people watching in the dark, up on the hill near JF's memorial. Great sound system from out in CF.

I counted 8 light poles. If I can adapt a line from A Field of Dreams, "If you light it, they will come."

5-3

One run Generated completely by errors
2 Errors in the 11th inning kill us

But my bone to pick: How is it that #2 shut us down? I kept track, and of the 19 batters he faced, 16 of them he threw first pitch offspeed jobs. I just dont see how guys dont notice the adjustment and sit on that curve of his instead of looking baffled that he didnt throw the fb.

Seriously, Haug(2) was good, but he never had to throw the fastball. Anytime he wasnt behind hed throw junk because we couldnt/wouldnt hit it. We just never challenged him whatsoever, and our lack of aggression at the plate cost us some at bats.

Anyway, great game!!! until the 11th

Stokes pitched pretty good, gave up two well hit balls, got 0 help in the field. Umberger pitched pretty well, and got out of a lot of jams.

Joe Feeley(Fr. #15) has a gun.

5-6-7 went a combined 0-15

CJ - add 1 more for your dog. That stunk to end a terrific baseball night that way! My boys (and the whole croud) had a great time. But those 2 errors in the 11th were hard to swollow. Team that up with poor hitting after GAG left, and that stinks.

My hubby and I went to the game last night but I kept up with the Davidson game via my phone. We had to leave early about midway thru the game because hubby had to work last night (night shift) so we hurried home to finish watching the Davidson game on the telee and keep up with the Liberty game online. *Sigh* modern technology :dance

2 outs. Top 9. Tying run at the plate for Coastal. Their DH is up for the game....

and the 2-2 pitch is fouled out to first, and the Flames take down the Chickens 9-6.

Nicely picks up the W. Hollinger, Jefferson, and Brown all picked up a pair of RBI for the Flames, and Errol and Aaron Phillips both scored twice.

From Lang's article about Saturday's game:
The Flames scored five runs with two outs in the third and another run with two down in the eighth, and the clutch hitting was enough to boost Liberty to a 9-6 win over No. 20 Coastal Carolina... Liberty (12-11, 1-1 Big South) held off a fierce Coastal rally in the top of the ninth to seal the victory, giving the Flames a chance for a series win today at 1 p.m. The Chanticleers (20-6, 1-1) loaded the bases with nobody out, but Flames reliever Dane Beakler managed to escape, allowing only a sacrifice fly to David Sappelt...

Liberty rode weary starter Clarence Nicely for six innings and won despite allowing 10 walks and 15 hits. Nicely, an Auburn transfer, struggled with his fastball command early but finally settled down late. He struck out Sappelt and Adam Rice to end the sixth, the final pitch to Rice his 128th of the afternoon.

“We were going to take him out after four when he was at about 90, but then he actually started getting guys out,” Liberty coach Jim Toman said. “So we were like, ‘maybe we can milk another inning from him.’ And we did. All of a sudden we were in the sixth, and we were like, ‘we can get one more out of him.’ He didn’t have great stuff, but he competed there and finally started throwing a nice breaking ball for strikes.”

The Flames have won only one series against Coastal since 2001, taking two of three at home in 2006. Despite Liberty’s struggles of late — before Saturday, it had lost 11 of 17 after a 5-0 start — a victory today for a series win against a nationally ranked conference opponent could signal a turn of fortunes...

BASE HITS: … Despite cool, windy conditions, Saturday’s attendance was 1,618. In 32 home games last season, the Flames never drew more than 1,000 for a game. They’ve drawn 4,801 for the first two games of this series.
