I have to admit that I am sad to have recently left the LU local community and moved to Minnesota after seeing this hire. This is another exciting hire that will build on the vision of Jerry. Jeff Barber is certainly earning his keep!
I played my last baseball game at LU 10 years ago and have gone to a total of about 5 games since while working at LU almost the whole time. While I loved Coach P and respected Matt there just wasn't that extra buzz of energy needed to really give me a vested interest in attending and supporting.
But, I hope Toman begins to tap back into alumni. It has been 10 years and I am still waiting for that first alumni contact from the baseball office. Maybe he will begin to tap into the graveyard a bit for help?

Keep up the great work on this site guys! It helps me to feel connected to the school at bit here in the frozen tundra.

His quotes about the facility issues were great. (Here's to NC State and USC for having comparatively crappy facilities so our current facilities weren't a deal breaker in this negotiation.) :P

I'm kind of used to recruiting with facilities that aren't quite as nice as our opponents."

And you know if I'm excited about it, I can convince other people to be excited about it.

All happening my senior year.

I'm gonna wear bow ties to the baseball games.

Dude, if I could get one of the old baseball jerseys and wear it with a blue or red bow tie that'd be so friggin sweet.

Liberty plucks USC assistant
Gamecocks lose head recruiter Toman, reunites with Flames’ AD
By SETH EMERSON - semerson@thestate.com

Jim Toman was sitting in his office at USC on Sunday afternoon, getting information on incoming baseball recruits ready for his soon-to-be ex-bosses.

Toman had already decided to leave his job as a Gamecocks assistant coach to take over the head job at Liberty, but the enormity of the move only sunk in at that moment.

“It kind of hit me there, that I was kind of moving my office out,” he said. “It’s going to be kind of hard.”

He was mentioned for plenty of head coaching jobs, and came close to going to Maryland a few years ago. So why Liberty, a Big South school without a rich baseball tradition?

“It just felt right,” Toman said. “I like the town of Lynchburg. I knew Jeff Barber from his time down here. And everyone up there trusts him.”

Why? That's exactly what he looks like. I saw him on campus Friday and I think he was wearing the exact same suit.

Coach Toman was calling his recruits at SC today and letting them know of the decision personally.

This is a good hire for LU...but the recent hires aren't killing me yet...
Our recent hires would kill you... if you guys had a football program over there.
