Prayers go out to Herndon. Our W/E pitchers are all cut from the same mold - 6'4", 6'5" with 90+ fastball and above average breaking stuff. Losing any one of them changes the dynamics of the team. I guess it's next man up at this point, similar to when Herndon went down last year.

If Herndon is out long term, we may need to bring in Stafford to fill in a spot as jinxy postulated earlier. We have one more midweek twinbill (Virginia Tech and James Madison April 14-15), maybe spot start Stafford and shift Fulghum to the weekend (since he already has gone long innings). Where this really hurts if its a long term injury is the Big South tournament where youre probably going to need 4-6 guys ready to start over the course of the week.

Stafford will need to be stretched out. Theres no way hes ready yet. My guess is herndon will be shut down for a brief period even if its not serious just to be safe. I think fulghum would take his turn in the rotation just because of the rest schedule. Parks may get yet another shot to do something as well though he never has put it all together for us. Yacyk really had some loud outs today. I really like working him in the lineup or platooning with lacik. This is the first mini 3 game struggle seiz has had and weve survived. I still think blaylock can help the club with his arm as well if parks and stafford struggle. Heres to hoping its minor for carson because we need him

Im about getting our best pitchers into the weekend rotation and Fulghum is one of our best IMO. Like I said, we have one midweek twinbill left so we have enough guys to cover games the rest of the way after that barring further injuries. Hoping for good news tomorrow or Monday.

Just curious, but how is it that everyone seems to think they know so much about Stafford? He has pitched less than 3 innings this Spring, and not that effectively. Don't know about what he may have done last fall. Hopefully he is indeed weekend starter material.

On Herndon ... we'll know more after tests. It's forearm tightness, the same thing that affected him last year. He actually felt it tweak throwing a fastball and tried to throw two more pitches before the pain became too much. Toman said he thinks Stafford is ready to go throw big innings if needed. He's high on the kid.

Toman said stafford and bean would be the midweek guys right before the season started. Hes a freshman lefty that touches 90 and in tomans terms "generates a lot of bad contact"

Lang answered my question in 4 words. "He's (Toman) high on him" That's really all that matters. If Stafford becomes our Sunday starter, that will mean on most Saturdays and Sundays we will have 4 true freshmen in our starting lineup. That's pretty exciting stuff when you look at how well we have been playing.
