I was actually laughing at your post Beej...until I got to the bolded.

I believe so. So that's a loophole. Either way, you're making at least a two-year college commitment if you choose to start school.

I did that on purpose to make a point. I like the guy, I wouldnt wish ill on him or anyone. My point was that youd deep down be happy no matter what happened to him because you dont like him...or something like that.

And that's ridiculously stupid and shows how out of touch with reality that you are.

What's the rule that allowed Matt Purke to enter the draft after only 2 years at TCU?

Like I said Jon, I did it that way on purpose. I agree with PA in that Toman is very much on the same level as Danny Rocco as far as overall success goes. Also, I like Toman. I liked him from the day I got to meet him and get my picture taken with him at the Flames Club luncheon. I know it doesnt make sense to wish that level of ill on someone, but considering your obvious dislike of the guy based on your posts (and Im sure personal interactions with the man), I thought Id push it to its logical extreme for you. As far as the topic at hand, its good to see three more of our guys get a chance to hopefully one day make the show. I wonder how the guys from last year are doing...

Except that extreme is nowhere near logical and is just absolutely stupid.

Of course its nowhere near logical Jon...that was exactly where I was going with it and thankfully you made that end for me.

That one I can't figure out. He didn't turn 21 until July of 2011 ... from MLB.com:
The basic categories of players eligible to be drafted are:

High school players, if they have graduated from high school and have not yet attended college or junior college;
College players, from four-year colleges who have either completed their junior or senior years or are at least 21 years old; and
Junior college players, regardless of how many years of school they have completed
I don't believe he redshirted. Perhaps it had something to do with the circumstances of when he was originally drafted by the Rangers. Purke and Texas agreed to a $6M signing bonus but MLB still controlled Texas' finances and wouldn't agree to the deal.

Lang, I think you answered the question. Using the bolded statement, or are at least 21 years old, he would qualify if he turned 21 in July of 2011 (last year).

Yeah, I couldn't figure out if it was if he was 21 at the end of the school year in May or if he was 21 before the start of the next year. Sort of unclear.

These guys can't stand Toman. There's a great chance they're all gone.
Couldn't agree more.... Man - I remember when one guy hated Royer and he got fired? JB needs to do the right thing and let Toman coach at a non-Christian school. Well, recruit, sorry Freudian slip there. Coaching would actually require baseball knowledge - what he does is try and steal all the spotlight from the players by acting like an (insert another word for donkey here) when somethings not going his way.

Like I said, its fine to think he is the unholy spawn of the devil himself (people can not like people, heck there are a few I dont like myself), but at least you could not back over him if youre gonna throw him under the bus

BJ - I think you are getting things messed up again... I'm not talking about Toman PERSONALLY.... He could be a great guy, BUT as a fan of Liberty University and this being a MESSAGE BOARD that we have a right to voice our opinions. I just don't think he is a good fit for my Alma Mater - plain and simple - Jerry and his son have worked hard to shine a light on this University as the best in the Country and I don't think he represents the University very well on the field or off of it. I don't like hearing stories from non-Liberty people about how are coach conducts himself on the road and I don't want to watch another very talented team bunt their way to another 40 win season and no post season against a mediocre schedule. A good coach would recognize his weaknesses and address them, or bring someone else in that can deal with them. Is this really going to get better? Do you think a man of his age and experience is just going to change all of the sudden? No - doesn't make him a bad coach, jut makes him realize that he might not be a good head coach.

which is fine...Ive wondered that myself. Ive said a few times that JB ought to think about buying out his deal. with a new stadium on the horizon, he may need to end up like Moses and not get to enter the promised land even though he took them to the brink of it

Nailed it. For whatever reason, Toman just doesn't seem to understand what he's doing to hold back the offense. I haven't been close enough to the program to hear about the off field stuff, but it sounds similar to how I felt about the behavior of Rutigliano as football coach when I was there. Toman seems to handle the pitching staff very well most days. He also sabotages the offense by giving away outs routinely with bunts.

It appears he would be a really good pitching coach/bench coach somewhere but being head coach is a step too high for him.

Enough with the bunting already. :frustrated

There are 11 teams in the BSC and there were 8 teams that bunted (sacrificed) more than us. Coastal had 76 bunts and Campbell had 58 and they had the best offense in the league. We had 42 sacrifice bunts. LET IT GO!

That doesn't take into account how many attempts we tried. Also, Coastal played tougher competition, therefore played closer games, therefore bunted more.

Baseball is a sport of many strategies. That's the beauty of it.
