Richmond was picked 4th in their conference and Towson 7th.

Obviously the pitching and hitting were great but the defense and baserunning were very impressive as well - an all around great three games so far.

On a side note, for any of you jealous of our 70 degree beautiful weather over the past two days in charleston, take comfort in that it has been raining and miserable for the last 4 innings. One more inning to go - freshman Shawn clowers to the mound to close it out.

Hard not to like the start. It's clear we are going to have plenty of hitting and speed on the basepaths. I think the OF defense is stronger than it's been since I've followed. I think we were spoiled with how smooth matty and Tyler were on the left side. Cox, Grauer, and Ardenaud (spelling?) are all going to be big pickups, possibly andy smith as well. Bullpen looks to be improved as well. I think the question is going to come on our other starters, eckelbarger and Kemmerer really struggled last year. Let's hope they have turned teh corner. Also, a good inning for Blake today, he's a guy we really need to get started hot. Last year he started off so badly and he never recovered.

We aren't going to have the stud 7-8 innings every time out starting pitching of last year. We're gonna have a lot of 5-6 innings and then piece it together on the back end types of games.

Why not actually use a Brian Regan reference from baseball in this situation?

Well several things are clear after the first weekend.

This team can hit, and by that i mean we have a bunch of guys that can hit and not just the top 5 in the order like the last few years.

We have a solid ace in Niggli

Defense & overall team speed is best i've seen in recent years.

Pitching wise, we dont have set starters outside of Niggli but we have at least 12 options on the mound it appears, some 2 way players.

Anyone know if Richardson is completely healthy yet. He has pinch hit twice, but i would have thought he or Blake would've closed but it was Grauer. They could be holding Blake to start against Radford Tuesday since he only threw one inning this weekend.

Richardson does not look like he is throwing full strength - he played a couple of innings at short and threw a couple of balls to first about 75% speed. Saw Grauer throw one inning in the fall and he has nasty stuff and looked good that day and today.

Toman made a couple of preseason comments about the guys working hard and coming together and you could really see that today. It is easy to be up and excited when you are blowing someone out but even when down in the last few innings they were very much into the game and picking each other up. If they can find the next level pitching after Niggli (Eckelbarger and Kimmerer did look good this weekend), then this group has the potential to have a great season.

Completely agree, we need to get Richardson healthy he was bringing it before he got hurt. I really think we need to get Blake going as a starter if he's not going to close. Super said it earlier but Eckelbarger and Kemmerer seems like 5 inning options. I woule be OK if those guys were our 3rd starter and mid week starter but not #2 and #3. That's why i hope blake can fill that #2 spot.
