Our juniors aren't coming back. They know another year under this staff would be useless for their career and, in the case of any pitchers, would be detrimental to their development.

super is dead right..you lose all your negotiability if you come back for your senior year. I would guarantee that everyone is gone except for Tyler, I think he should come back because he could improve his stock a lot. Even if he comes back and has a similar year he would get drafted in teh bottom again next year.

Tyler is the only one that may come back but he graduated. He could get more money next year but he could have another bad year with the approach our coaches teach.

Is nobody surprised that Doug Bream didn't get drafted except me?

Doug was a pretty underrated player offensively. with much of the focus on Tyler Bream, Matt Williams and a few others, he probably had one of the quietest careers of anybody. Led the team in batting average, was at or near the top in doubles, I think what may have set him back is he lacks speed and he can be a bit of a defensive liability on occasion playing in the outfield. He had a few balls go over his head this year to be sure, so even with a sterling fielding percentage, not all the ones that got by him necessarily were counted as errors. He could find a home as a DH in some organization.

doug has a very unorthodox approach to hitting i.e. a johnny damon like weird swing that is successful. He lacks speed and really doesn't have any plus attributes on the defensive side. He just has a great knack for getting the job done with the bat. I just dont know where he would play defensively at the next level since he was largely a high average low power college player who plays positions that require power and hitting for average if your weak defensively (LF, 1b, Dh).

also, i think the thing with tyler is that he had very bad pitch selection, he chased a lot of off speed stuff in the dirt in the 10-12 games i went to that put him behind in almost every count. It's tough to hit when your constantly 1-2 and 0-2 and you have to hit the pitchers pitch. He can crush a fastball with the best of them but he is really going to have to work on hitting the off speed pitch to make it to the next level. Defensively he looks like a MLB type 3b and is silky smooth with a plus arm and decent range, especially coming in on the ball. He and Matty both tend to make the spectacular play and boot the easy one occasionaly in my opinion.

one of the current juco signees plans on signing
Edwards drafted by Cubs

Former West Valley High standout Cody Edwards was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 50th and final round of the Major League Baseball amateur draft that concluded Wednesday.

Edwards was drafted as a pitcher.

The 2008 graduate of West Valley played two seasons at Bellevue Community College, but sat out this spring as he recovered from Tommy John surgery on his pitching arm in early 2010, according to his mother Judy Edwards.

Cody Edwards is currently playing with the Klamath Falls (Ore.) Gems in the West Coast League, a wood-bat summer league for college players.

Edwards has a scholarship to play at Liberty University in Virginia, but is expected to sign with the Cubs, his mother said.

I talked to Steven Evans and he said ALL 7 players signed including Tyler Bream, kinda surprising to me that he wouldn't come back considering how far back he is in the draft but he probably has his reasons regarding the staff at Liberty. Doug Breams Speed hurt him in the draft...I just dont think he was quick enough even in the outfield which showed in MANY errors this year, despite his strong batting. but we have some major re-building for next year...Ryan Corrdell basically has Right field I'm guessing...but other than Zack Haley at 2nd base, Storm is gonna have to replace the ENTIRE infield and a HUGE chunk of the pitching staff. He's a very good recruiting coach so here is his chance to prove it with some strong freshmen and Jr. College transfers. He may give Sizemore 1st base...but still have to find a shortstop, 3rd basemen, and Catcher for the upcoming season, unless there's some guys in the dugout that have just been sitting there quietly waiting for their turn. Should be interesting to see next year :D

Ty got taken care of by the D-Backs which is good. They should the commitment level needed to make a decision like this easier. A fresh start isnt the worst idea ever either....you dont need the demons of last year creeping into your mind as a Sr. the moment your first inevitable slump hits.

Going to be a lot of holes to fill. We will see how good of a recruiter he is. I know he has done well and Royer did as well with some JUCO but I think we need to start getting some quality freshman and have a good core of Seniors that have played together for several years.

We'll have 15 JUCO guys next year to try to fill holes, only use six of them, and be in this exact same position next year only hopefully with a new coach because we didn't renew his contract.

The Oracle has spoken.. Although to be honest, I don't think you're that far off. Toman knows he's on the hot seat so I expect quite a few JUCO's come and vie for starting jobs. Maybe the new coach will finally start building a cohesive team next year...
