I appreciate your faith, but how many times have we said "maybe next year", and yet achieve the same result the next year? Baseball, Football, and Men's Basketball are perfect examples.

For what it's worth I don't really blame the players on the baseball team. They're good.

The coaching situation in baseball is a tough call. I can't argue with those who have been critical of some of the in-game decisions that have been made. On the other hand, it appears that we have pretty much wiped out the talent gap between us and Coastal. That's a big deal. The question is, can Toman learn to be a better game manager? I think he's a pretty smart guy, and it's not rocket science. I'm concerned that if we make a change we will be back to square one with inferior talent, in which case it won't matter if the new guy is a genius at game time.

I agree we're getting close and in a seven game series we SHOULD be able to win maybe 2. But it's one and done in BSC championship game.

However, they have an overabundance of pitching talent - we don't. They had the POY - we didn't. They had more players on the all conference team (1st & 2nd team) than we did. Last time I'll make this point. They had the best ERA in the COUNTRY - we didn't. I guess I'm more sensitive to this issue having coached HS baseball in my former life.

But we also had 10 (maybe 11?) hits. You'd think that would score some runs, but apparently not. We outhit them, but when you bunt you also take away the amount of outs we get to convert those hits into runs.

I am pleased and proud of them and I am looking forward to next year. They played to the end and just got beat by a better team. Coastal probably has the best baseball team in the Big South and I wish them well.
After losing what we did in the draft last year I don't think many would thought we would have the year we did but this streak is what is getting everyone. It reminds me of Rocco playing against JMU. He would play not to lose rather than trying to win the game. We were the highest seed that faced CCU in the tourney yet scored the fewest runs (run I should say). It seems that we have a lot of talent coming in next year but if Toman can't beat Coastal......I hate that they are not playing this weekend but they did have a great year; Best of luck to the seniors!

Now that everyone has had time to look back over the season; you will now see that I was right about this whole season. Would not win the conference, or the tournament, nor get an at-large bid to the regionals. Liberty never will win these with this coach calling the shots. He complained about the conference being weak and he lost 10 games; and needed to play a tougher non-conference schedule; as he lost to some pretty weak teams this year. Just like I have said, It is better to lose to good teams, than to beat up on weak ones. 2010--42 wins......2012--41 wins. What do you have to show for it???? Nothing!!!! No champions!!! No regionals!!! Trust me folks; Old Trottalot knows what he is talking about.
I feel bad for Liberty University and all the baseball players; because they truly deserve a better head coach to lead them. As the baseball staff is falling apart and some are moving on, it surely is evident that no one can stand this man. I think that this would be a perfect time for JB to make a change; as the university is getting a new stadium and a better feel for what it takes to get to the top of DI baseball. It is time to get rid of the cancer in the dugout; and start fresh with a whole new staff to bring in this new era of baseball to Liberty. Toman's game managing and his constant fussing with the umps; let along his appearance is in bad task for a Christian university.

yes.

I mean, he totally recapped everything we've already discussed since Saturday

Sounds like a certain other member who recaps everything someone else said and then represents it as his own idea  (but God bless him, he doesn't mean to do it).

You guys were talking a bunch of trash early in the season saying you were going to win the conference and go to the regionals especially went you beat VA and UNC. I told you then you would not make it. You guys can't stand it when someone disagrees with you and turns out he is right.

haha, want to go find when and where I said that?

I don't know if Haize even likes baseball. Not sure, but basketball's more his thing. I would assume, like me, he's more mildly amused by flies to the ointment like you.

You guys wanting Toman fired will most likely have a long wait. I am not a hater or an apologist for the coach. He has done some things I don't like, (that I have mentioned to some of you), but has done many good things. Apperance? You are a moron.
First we had 8 players drafted last year. I think it is remarkable that we finished as well as we did with the major turnover in players. We had the freshman of the year in conference. I think Toman did a good job with the pitchers this year. This is probably the best defense we have ever had. We beat at least 3 teams that are in the playoffs. At least half of the bunts some of you complain about were good plays considering the situation(s).
In spite of what run-at-the-mouth-a-lot says, the players don't hate Toman. He may not be liked by every individual player, but most think highly of him. How do I know? I know one of the guys who sends recruits to Toman and they have very positive feedback. Much better than most of the previous coaches.
Finally, we have had a very tough time against Coastal, but most teams do. We may be out coached, I will not argue that point, but it is not like a Johnny Hutton and whoever he coached against difference, (talk about players not liking a coach). But Toman doesn't hit or field. Some or most of that responsibility has to be the players.
So, whatever your feelings, I expect we will see Mr. Toman around for some time to come. We could and have done a lot worse.

We could do a lot better too. Good is the enemy of best. We are a good team and that's all we'll ever be under Mr. Coach Klein. He will never get us over the hump. He's baseball's Rocco.

I can't say that I disagree totally. You know my feelings about Toman. I would give him one more year, but wanting to fire the guy after we beat UNC for the first time in forever and UVA ( a #1 seed in the regionals) is more of a knee-jerk reaction than a well thought out strategic move IMVVVHO . We have seen continuous improvement and that is a positive. I am willing to cut the guy a little more slack than most I guess. Must be I am getting old and too passive since my triple bypass.

Fair, but to a certain point, it doesn't matter who you beat when you can't win games you're supposed to (Virginia Tech, Bryant, once against Coastal, losing the series to UNC Asheville, etc.)

Winning those games means nothing if we can't make it to the regionals. Coach Klein will always blow games we should win and do something stupid in games we need to win. He will also lead us to wins like UNC/UVA occasionally because of his recruiting.

Our pitching this year was because of Chach and Billy. Both are gone.

Our hitting this year was because of Hagen. He's gone.

We are left with Coach Tommy John and Mr. Coach Klein.

We will win 35-40 games next year, have 10-15 losses, four of those losses will be to Coastal, and we will be watching regionals again.

Coach Klein can pray for me all he wants but I'm a much bigger fan of Liberty than I am one coach. I value the program, not him.

Super. Your not giving the players enough credit. Sure good assistants are a must but your giving way too much credit. College baseball is about 4 things: recruiting talent, developing talent, maintaining talent, and game managment. Im very frustrated with toman as well but you have to say he and his staff have done well in 3 of those 4. The game strategy being the exception but that is ultimately his calls. I get what your saying but i think thats taking something away from the talent.

SJ,
As far as game strategy I am not sold that is a major problem. I will admit I haven't seen as many games this year as in the past, but the one's I have seen and the resulting haters spew, just don't match up. Being a past player at LU, and playing baseball all of my life, I am not an expert, but I would say my knowledge of the game is better than most.
Who hired those assistant coaches? Seems like he did a pretty good job.
I agree 100%, I am a fan of LU, not a single coach.

FlameFans - "throwing people under the bus since the early 2000's"

I still say this team overachieved and most of you expected much less from this transfer laden team. Do I wholeheartedly agree with the coach, um no. Too much bunting and not enough turn the bats loose for me. However, I will fully support him and his staff and the players going forward.

Maybe what Toman needs is an "Offensive Coordinator" for baseball: how about Sid Bream? :)
