The Terps have a National Title in Basketball. The Ravens have 2 NFL Championships.

And the Orioles had Cal Ripken Jr.

yeah, I had a post all written out about how comparing those schools/teams to Liberty athletics is a stretch.

It is possible for LU to get to Omaha. Just get in NCAA tournament, and peak at right time. Plus a little luck will be needed.

I recall several years ago there was some team, Oregon State I believe, was one of last at large teams picked for tournament. They were barely above .500 but they snuck in . They ended up winning the CWS.

Just had to call me out didn't you BJ. Nice little run the Flames are on and with the conference scoreless streak. But really, look who it is against. The Big South is way down this year with most of all the teams with losing records. So keep pounding your chest while play these weak teams as you will win the BS AGAIN this year. The only good team you have beat is Duke and they are Duke and not great either.
How about Toman running up the score on VMI, 17-0; while only making one position substitution. What goes around comes around, kind of like USC BEATING the Flames 19-3. He will get his I promise.

I believe that's called not changing up the flow of the game for your squad while your freshman pitcher is working on a no-hitter.

Edit: And thanks alot BJ.

we had 17 runs by the 5th. You cant predict a no hitter by then. Let others get in like most would have done

Nope. No coach would make changes at that point under the circumstances. Even if there wasn't a no hitter, most coaches wouldn't begin subbing until the 7th inning.

If a guy has a no-hitter five innings in no matter what the score is you leave him in unless he's hurt and cant keep going

if it makes anyone feel better VMI fans are whining about it as well.

then again they DO win the BSOUTH good sportsmanship award every year.

so there's that.

If they lose a series 26-0 in 3 games the Good Sportsmanship award is all they really have hope for. It's not our fault the VMI pitchers and defense couldn't keep guys off base if you keep giving up multi-hit innings against an offense this explosive that's going to happen.

Qft...any change can affect the result...that's why teams are so superstitious when there is a perfecto or no-hitter in progress from about the 5th inning on

You leave the pitcher in the game, but after the 6th or 7th inning there should not have been one starter in the game. You don't put one players stats in front of the whole team. You win as a team you lose as a team. Those kids on the bench practice hard too and wants to play also. Out of respect for the other team you do these things.
Players win games; coaches lose them!!

I couldn't disagree more. A no-hitter is not just a stat. With his talent, it could happen again, but it is also quite possible that this was a once in a lifetime opportunity for Parker Bean. Toman owed nothing to VMI. If they don't want to be embarassed, they need to hit, pitch and field better. He DID owe it to his pitcher to have his best defensive lineup on the field under these circumstances.

I wants to play coach, put me in. Have you ever seen a baseball? A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

Thats absurd. You dont weaken your defense with a no hitter going. Hey if vmi doesnt want to get run up they they shouldnt have emptied their bench and bullpen. Trot is way off base like usual. The only valid point is we dont have a signature win yet. I fully expect we will get atleast 1. The big south is not down. Coastal is but radford vmi high point and campbell are all having great seasons for them.

I would be willing to bet if you polled the guys on our bench they would overwhelmingly say that Bean deserved to have the starters out there on defense as long as he had the no-hitter going.

As I said above...baseball players are HIGHLY superstitious. It's very possible that one change, no matter how minute it may be, can affect the outcome. That's why, when a no-hitter or perfect game going, nobody talks to the pitcher, nobody touches him, nobody does ANYTHING...except play. You don't make any changes to positions either...

I'm not the biggest Toman fan, but Trot give me a break. Those are absolutely laughable arguments. At least if you want to rip the guy find something valid. Taking starters out during a blowout no hitter almost no coach across college would do. Also, calling Duke the best team we have played just immediately discredits you from knowing anything about college baseball. They are about the 10th best team we have faced and they have the rpi and record to prove it. It's just a midweek game we lost - get a clue.

just to make a minor correction newoldschool...it was Maryland we lost to not Duke (Duke was the epic home run barrage where Yacyk and Seiz crushed home runs that I think are still flying as of my last check)

I noticed VMI had a 17-0 win (Md. Eastern Shore) and 15-2 over Presby - not that much to complain about IMO - some subs, but didn't exactly empty the bench

Thanks for that Beej! Not sure what I was thinking there. So, spin the whole Duke thing and saying that's the best team we have beat is dumb... Lol

I'm all for the unwritten rules of baseball and I've expressed my opinion on Toman but this is stupid. You don't yank your pitcher if he's got a no-hitter, as long as he can pitch. This is universally understood and accepted. To criticize Toman for that is beyond asinine.
