All I know is I'm really excited about seeing Rasmus and Forslund both.

Keegan's cruising and gives up a hit. Quinn comes out to talk to him and then Keegan gives up a bomb. Tie game. I can't tell you how many times that has happened with our staff.

I heard that in the stands last year on more than one occasion, and we've never met (if you get my drift, which I know you do).

I only watched the first game. But here is my immediate opinion Toman is killing us in the coaching department. He may be a great recruiter but managing the game is definitely not his strong point. Beakler should have been kept in and we probably split this series if he does stay in. the mangement of the pitching seems to be killing me. I also looked at the roster good and long friday. Are we the yankees? we bring in HALF a roster of juco transfers like its the free agency to fill holes. I'm sorry I don't mind a few but you don't build a program on juco transfers. Mercer doesn't have one juco on that roster. They are mostly in state talent that has been developed and they are as good as they are playing. I just don't understand some of the philosophy behind what Toman is trying to do. and I don't think many will disagree that he just doesn't seem like the "liberty" type guy either but thats besides the point. sorry had to get my frustration out.

I think it was said earlier that Beakler has a sore arm (or some other type of injury) and thats why he didn't pitch long. What do you mean Toman doesn't seem like a "Liberty" type guy?

Been talking with some former players and alumni who are still close to the program who do not like the type of players being recruited. I.e the discussion we had last year about the christian atmosphere on the team. can't remember what the thread was called but we discussed it at length on here at some point. I know beaklers arm was sore but when toman came out to get him after 2/3 he was obviously upset about it. beakler seemed to argue with him /plead with him but he took him out anyway. we gave the first game away plain and simple and then our guys got SMOKED on sat. sorry I don't see us being anywhere near where we were last year. i'll be happy with over .500

if his arm was that bad he shouldn't have put him in to start with, thats what i don't understand about it.

K's the side...tahts why i said throw richardson in the 7th on friday. gotta take the W's when you have a chance. Now if we hadn't let Friday get away we would've been ok.

You can say whatever you want about Toman and the way he handles certain situations during a game but I promise you he knows more about baseball than you. He did what he thought was best and it turned out to be the wrong choice..oh well. Its a 50+ game season he hasn't made the last bad choice of the year.

While I am aware he knows more about baseball than any of us on this board he played a matchup instead of going with the hot hand. I know thats the "coaching" thing to do but in college baseball its not always what works. this isn't the big league. we just went 1-3 against a team that would have looked REALLY good sweeping or even going 3-1 against at the end of the season. Barring a complete meltdown Mercer is going to be one of the higher RPI teams we'll play this year. and probably a regional team as well.

Hot hand? There are no hot hands in the first game of the season.

When he strikes out the first two batters he faces you pull him i call that pulling a hot hand. Sorry but we'll agree to disagree

That's what I like to see. I missed the last two innings but it looks like Josh came in and did his job. At least we got one.

what does knowing more about baseball have to do with anything. I go with results bro, If richardson if your stopper you use him when the game is on the line from teh 7th inning on. See today and see Friday for the results. You dont always stretch him for 2 plus innings but you put all the cards in when you have to win a series like this one. I still dont get what the deal with Dane is. If he's hurt then why is he pitching a third of an inning and then warming up 3 times today. That is why we keep having so many injuries to the pitchers because they throw 70 pitches warming up 3 times. Either he's healthy and he should be pitching or he's tender and should be resting. I dont think any of us are claiming to be smarter, however i have played and watched the game enough to seriously question some of the moves he has made, handling of pitchers, pinch hitting for situational matchups etc).

dont get me wrong im not a toman hater like some on the board. I just have a few philosophical differences than some of the moves he makes. I would still like to see Jefferson in the lineup as well, the kid can def. rip the fastball.

You are saying that like you knew it was going to happen. All I'm saying is that Toman didn't know that the reliever was going to blow it Friday (he thought he was doing the best thing for the team by saving Richardson). Richardson has only pitched once so where is "pulling the hot hand" coming from? Am I missing something?

Nobody knows what a player (whether its a JUCO or true freshman) is going to do till they go out there and get a shot. Don't get me wrong I wish we didn't have so many JUCOs in the line-up and I wish that we weren't relying on them it tough situations but we are.

Richardson isn't the stopper. He is the closer. Beakler is probably the guy Toman would call the stopper but he can't go now for whatever reason.

i dont know if you heard this or not...beakler warmed up to come in the game 3 times today..he pitched friday. That's what we are saying. The closer is referred to as the stopper in baseball circles..hopefully you knew that.
