I doubt seriously any falling out occurred any higher up than the Head Coach.

Ed
I was wondering about the fact that Beasley is with the Nationals. That could have had a lot to do with it, I hope so. Maybe he will be back one day. Imagine Tomlin, Bream & Guetterman on the same staff!

Below is a link to a q & a from the pittsburgh post gazette from 2002. Seems like even back then Randy made it known the he wanted to be head coach in college or a professional pitching coach. Maybe he figured it was time for a new challenge like ed said. I always find it interesting when people say this may be a rash decision to look at what individuals have said in the past and see if it matches with a current decision.

http://www.post-gazette.com/pirates/que ... 8bucqa.asp

Also Randy made nearly a million dollars in his last year with the Pirates and made a considerable amout of money before that, i would imagine if he spent his $$$ right he is pretty financially secure with that kind of money in the Lynchburg area over the last 10 years or whatever. So if it was his hearts desire $$$ may have had very little to do with pursuing a dream.

Not sure, but Manny Acta brought in a whole new staff when he took the Nats job.

Ed, for one thing. Its not more money.... Secondly, this isn't the first that has been on the table, there were quite a few before, but never acted upon. The situation is what it is, I've heard practices have been good, coach is much looser, and the guys are ready to go. Let's hope for a good one

Looser? I never knew Tomlin's rough and tough personality made everyone uptight. I guess everyone's on edge around him not knowing when he's going to start yelling (please, pick up on the sarcasm)

It wont last everything was "better" last year after a sit down was ordered then it was a slippery slope right back to where things were

Truth, read the comment. I didn't say "everyone" was looser, i know yours was sarcastic though. Just making sure my comment was clear there.

Oh Proto, Proto, well here we go again, your statements are so ridiculous. You see, if you only knew the Tomlins like you pretend to know, then you would know that Randy Tomlin does not get on this site, perhaps another lesson that you, and MR could learn from him. No Proto, If Mrs. Tomlin is going to have something to say, she would not say it to us, she would go directly to that person. Again Proto, you just don't know the Tomlins, or baseball, or the real situation with the program. If you are going to contine to post, try getting the right information, and stop assuming, and accusing.

I deleted that post

I'm pretty sure there are a lot more supporters out there then just his wife....pretty sure, at least it seemed so at the going away party

I think Proto was making an attempt at humor that was ill-conceived.

If we could have the type of passion for our team in attendance that we have in this thread we'd need to build a new stadium.

The people that have said things in this thread are pretty passionate about the games.

Then again, 2pm games during the week are somewhat hard to get. 4pm games are hard too.

I heard it was a great going away party, regretfully I was unable to make it. Heard they had to bring in more tables and chairs for the turn out and that JF showed up with a 20 minute speech about the impact Randy Tomlin has made on the program, and how JF is going to miss Randy Tomlin and his family. Proto, if your still wondering what Randy Tomlin has done for LU, here is a thought, ask Jerry Falwell. Hence it would be safe to say that some earlier posts are pretty accurate or hit the nail on the head when they said that JF loves and respects Randy Tomlin. Lets just see what happens when the ball gets rolling GO flames.

It fine that everyone wants to think that I don't like Tomlin, think he is a horrible coach, a horrible person, etc... Because nothing I say seems to clear that up anyway:) I HAVE NOTHING AGAINST TOMLIN - PERIOD END OF STORY!!!

I was not pointing out his flaws, just asking people to back off Coach Royer. Not to make this another excuse to bring down ANOTHER good person for no reason. If you guys only knew what Royer was putting up with, you would not be posting on this board. I was joking about Mrs. Tomlin - it was just a comment about how someone can fight so hard for someone they truly don't know either. And yes, Tomlin's wife does read this board. Not sure if she ever post, but I know for a fact she reads this board pretty often. And I wouldn't say that if I didn't know Knobodywest.

I'm done responding on this thread. I hope we can all move forward and just celebrate having a good Baseball coach and hope you guys don't get what you guys are hoping for. I hope Royer doesn't leave or get fired. The program WILL go downhill. Be happy that we have a coach with a good track record of winning where ever he's been and he is willing to do it for one of the worst salaries in college athletics, with a mediocre facility, lack luster fan support, non-supportive alumni, and be criticized for putting the 2 best years in LU baseball together.

Last note - Hitting and fielding didn't lose the BS Tournament last year - Pitching DID.

I respectfully disagree about the "two best years"...
...as the schedules the past two years have been mediocre, at best. That should not take away from the team's accomplishments, though.

I would argue the teams under Pastors were more successful.

So was it Tomlin's fault Ryan Page got hurt? Was it his fault the other pitchers got hurt? Was it his fault we had the toughest schedule to get to the championship game?

there you go again , Mr Proto, making statements that only show your lack of knowlege for the game. Obviously you do not know your friend MR that well. If you did you would know that he made ALL of the pitching moves and decisions not Tomlin. It was his choice to do nothing as he burned his best relief pitcher in the bullpen as well as having pitchers available who had not thrown an inning. Everyone who listened to the game thinks the same thing. By the way, Proto, if Mrs. Tomlin has been on here, you could be sure that she would have figured out who you are and have contacted you, to set you straight.

She can have my number. Never tried to hide my identity. I'm not saying anything that I wouldn't say to someone's face. But there are many on this board who will not let their identity be known.
