The FlameTrain takes one last trip to Liberty Baseball Stadium to wrap up a four game homestand before heading out on the road for 8 of the next 10 games, and welcome the Fighting Danny Roccos (yeah I know its baseball) to town for a midweek tilt. The Spiders come in a mediocre 14-14-1 following a series loss to LaSalle at home. Liberty probably sends Lyons to the hill in this one although with Carson Herndon likely out for a period, Stafford may get some extended work as well.

This sets up another important stretch after this one. We get 8 of our next 10 on the road as I noted in the OP. We have Longwood, then two more in-state games at home (an underachieving Virginia Tech followed by JMU), then 3 with Gardner-Webb and wrap up with a pair of big ACC opponents on the road (Clemson and UNC) to wrap up. Longwood has lost 5 in a row including a sweep by Gardner-Webb so we should get all three there heading into a big week next week

Richmond's pitcher is having some command problems early, had a few walks in first just had Grauer on his first pitch of the second

Perritt retires the side in order in the 9th for save #8. Seems like he was stuck on 7 forever, but with us blowing everyone out, save situations have been few and far between.

Solid win. I believe they started 0 and 8 so theyve played better recently. Good to show we can win a high scoring game as well. Little concerning that its 2 bad outings in a row from lyons. No time for that with cars on the shelf

Always nice to win an in-state game especially when the other team was actually getting some offensive production. All in all another good win and a nice way to prove we don't need to kick the crap out of somebody to beat them.

Liberty is 3-1 against in-state non conference opponents (1-1 vs. ODU and 2-0 vs. Richmond). Last season Liberty finished 4-4 against in-state non conference opponents and 12-7 overall. Liberty is 3-0 against in conference in state opponents following the sweep of VMI and 6-1 overall

Woodson is a highly respected baseball guy and can flat out coach. That is not the same team from the beginning of the year. Good win despite their rpi, which will keep improving as they finish up
