With one out I think you come out swinging with a guy on 3rd. A.Close got robbed of an RBI by a great play by VT outfielder. Eck was pitching great but sounds like they wanted to use the BP today.Bunting in that situation is just stupid. Watching from afar, it seems to have been frequently this season. If your coach continually makes stupid calls, you lose. Time to move on.

BJWilliams wrote:well its a matter of how good you are at bunting...if he get's it down and we end up scoring a run, he's a genius for he call. But the bunt was popped up and led to a DP so of course he is dumb or whateverHe's not a genius no matter the result. Bunting in that situation is bad baseball, statistically speaking.

But the bunt was popped up and led to a DP so of course he is dumb or whateverBunting (or sacraficing) with 1 out gives you less of a chance to score 2 or more in one inning. Joe Maddon does this all the time and I scratch my head constantly. If it's the 8'th or 9'th inning and you need to tie the game, fine. If it's in the middle or early on, it makes absolutely no sense.

BJWilliams wrote:It was a tie game at the time. one run (as it turned out) ended up being the difference in the game. If that squeeze bunt gets down, and a run scores, the run that Tech scored would have only tied the game, and for what its worth, probably makes for a different bottom of the ninth inning as wellYou don't play for one run in the 5th inning.

I can see the logic behind trying to squeeze the guy in in the 8th inning, even though I disagree that it is the best move in that spot.adam42381 wrote:The play I was referencing was in the 8th inning (where you certainly could play for one run)BJWilliams wrote:It was a tie game at the time. one run (as it turned out) ended up being the difference in the game. adam42381 wrote:Actually it's not so stupid when you have a strong double play candidate at the plate, which we did By bunting you force the defense to make a play, or not and avoid the double play. This play worked to perfection last weekend against HPU in which we scored a run from it and had a guy at second with 2 outs. I don't recall if that runner scored.krh44 wrote:Ten men left on bases including bases loaded. Most frustrating was 1st and 3rd with one out & we bunt resulting in double play. krh44 wrote:Stupid or not it is just frustrating. A few different plays gone differently and we could be over 40 wins this year. Hopefully we can make a good run in the tourney. What worries me is the fact that we have had trouble winning the close ones and the extra inning games.Agreed!
