Huge for Forslund too after he comes in cold against his former team when Dudley went out. Man it is SOO good to have Wimmer back. HUGE WIN!

jinxy wrote:Very nice win. Today confirmed what we have known but been unable to prove for the last 3 years. Our program is right there knocking on the door, we just need to break it down. Uva is a little down this year, still a legit top 35 team and a road win there is big.

I think 2 things that are helping this team win is they put the ball in play instead of striking out which has forced a lot of errors and they play solid defense. I think this is key, we have had good offenses the last few years but we struck out in big spots too much. This year were putting the ball in play and forcing the action.

So we have Kemmerer lined up to face JMU tom. if it doesn't rain it out.

Hope Dudley's back isn't serious because he has thrown very well this year.
+1 - especially the defense - when you are making only one error every two games, you are going to put yourself in position to win alot of games. Rain permitting, it would be great to get a win vs JMU as Coppin St is not good and a sweep there would put us at 13-1 on Sunday.

Back in the Burg. Great win today. Even if UVa is young, didn't we lose 7 guys that went to the draft? Anyway, they are playing good ball and with confidence. Nice to keep looking up and seeing one hit on the board for the Hoos.
To the UVa fan in the bleachers chanting about the curfew. It really doesn't work when you are down 8-0!

I know nothing about the baseball team. So having qualified that, I think this was a pretty solid victory :D I mean they were ONLY 14 in the country

From a UVA fan on the Sabre:
This is not your typical Liberty squad. Those guys looked good. They played above-average defense all night, with their SS and 2b making great plays all over the place. Their starter wasn't overpowering, but certainly looked like he could pitch. When he left with some apparent injury, the kid they brought in who transferred from UVA (so I'm told) was popping 91-94. They looked like they had a solid approach at the plate, and seem to have a bunch of line drive hitters who work the middle of the field. If they were wearing the uniforms of a top tier program, they would have been able to fool a lot of people tonight, myself included. They are in line for a very good year. I didn't leave the game thinking "wow how did we lose to that team?" I left thinking "we just got beat up by a very good team."
Can't take any game for granted. But I will say for those who
didn't see the game today, that wasn't the Liberty that we've all grown accustomed to beating up on over the years. I honestly left feeling more impressed by them than let down by us. I think our guys were absolutely stunned by what they saw
happening out there.

I dont recall them beating up on us. For one, they wouldn't play us the last few years (i know that for a fact). Second baseball has always had a solid program and for many years until O'Connor took over UVA was an absolute joke in baseball. In fact i would argue we were the better program of the 90's and early 2000's. However O'connor took over and quickly lapped us, but the spread is not what it is in basketball or football.

I am like you I don't recall them beating up on us but I could be wrong. According to their message board we won because we used our 1 pitcher and they used their 4th.

I think he was referring more in general in beating us up in all sports. in the past decade I can remember us playing them in sports like soccer, basketball, baseball, etc. The only wins we have over UVA in the past decade are...
Mens bball 2008-09 86-82
Tie in mens soccer 2009 1-1 2OT GREAT game was there
2-0 mens soccer this past fall
Womens basketball 2006-07 75-71
softball 2006 5-2 split of a double header
softball 2008 split 2 game series second game win 9-6
softball 2010 split DH 6-4
softball 2011 split series won first game 8-0

in that same time period both soccer teams have lost 5 and 6 times to UVA
Volleyball lost 2 times
Womens bball lost 2 times
mens bball lost 2 times
Baseball has lost once.
Softball lost at least 3 times.
*disclaimer- Some schedules like baseball and soccer only go back to 2006 on the school athletics website.
With all that being said we have a better record against UVA than we do against VT in almost every major sport.

Man i'm starting to sound like beej with these stats.

We upset them in WBB at the Vines Center. Then they wouldn't play us for awhile

Why are some folks "against our AD" ? I think he's one of best in the country. granted he made a hire along the eay that may not be best in the world, but he's doing a good job in my opinion.
