Well I would have liked to see the guys pull this one out...all we can do is regroup and get ready for a huge series this weekend (if the weather holds)

ToTheLeft wrote: Carter Browning came in at a time when we needed a guy like Beakler who will attack the zone and get outs. Carter has struggled all year, and to have him out there at a time when we needed someone to attack the batters was not the right move, IMO. Should have stuck with Dudley or gone to Beak...

Also, in the 9th, should have pinch run for Doug Bream... don't know how much it would have mattered on that last play, but it could have.
Gonna disagree with these two points.

Going into yesterday, no one expected Dane to throw like he did. We knew he'd get there at some point, but I don't think anyone knew it would be yesterday. Yesterday was the first time that he's thrown more than one time in a week in almost two years. We got a very pleasant surprise with him throwing that hard and his slider being that good, but I don't think anyone knew he was going to throw that well. I can get behind maybe putting someone in besides Carter, but I'm not 100% sure Dane is your guy in that situation.

As for running for Doug, I agreed with you in the heat of the moment. However, after I thought about it for a minute, I realized that Doug's run wasn't the run we needed to be running for. If you were going to put in a runner, you put them in for the tying or winning run. It wouldn't have mattered on that double play because the umpire flat out missed it. The second baseman knew he missed the bag because he tried to tag Doug (and missed). You don't try to tag the runner if you know you got the base. That one was on the umpire.

Edit: Crap, I got things mixed up. I thought Doug was the DH and Jeff was the left fielder. I got that mixed up. Knowing that, I can definitely get behind running for Doug there because you're putting Kenneth in for defense if you tie the game anyway.

even without the double play they still got Jeff out at first correct? so from there Doug would have scored on Mike Rob's hit and that brings Wimmer up with 1 on and down 5-4 but with only 1 out.... granted Wimmer has yet to find his bat so i don't know how that would have gone, but it is still a much different game nonetheless

Carter has had a tough time of it this year for sure.In early december he was diagnosed with swine flu ,which morphed into mono in early January. He missed practices because there is danger of a spleen rupture when one has mono via physical exertion. He dropped almost 25 lbs.

No one wanted to do better job of pitching than did Carter himself.I'm sure he is as disappointed as anyone.

Here's hoping that Carter's health returns and that his confidence comes back so that he can help the team down the stretch. In the meantime, let's hope the rest of the pitching staff picks up the slack , the offense keeps producing, and that the Flames have a great season this year.

In the interview we did with him this morning, Coach Toman talked about Carter getting the flu in the fall. He said that they've gotta get him in the bullpen and get him back to how he was last year. Hopefully in the coming weeks we can get a blowout game where we can throw him in there and work the kinks out. He'll get back to where he was. It just takes time.
