Former Liberty Flames second baseman Michael Just has joined the River City Rascals of the independent Frontier League, signing a contract with the team this past weekend.

Just, a native of Woodcliff Lake, N.J., saw his first action as a Rascal Friday night as a pinch runner. He started both of his team’s games Saturday and Sunday against Rockford, going 4-8 in the two games before the Frontier League’s All-Star Break.

The River City Rascals, based in O’Fallon, Mo., are one of 10 teams fielded by the Frontier League. The league, which started in 1994, has teams throughout the Midwest region of the United States as far east as Pennsylvania and as far west as Missouri.

Just finished his Liberty career this past season with 92 hits, setting a new school single season hit mark. The second baseman was named to the VaSID all-state and Big South Conference second teams in his final season. He completed his Flames’ career third all-time in hits and among the school’s top ten in at bats, runs, doubles and walks. Known as a steady defender, the second baseman committed only 10 errors in over 170 starts at the position.

This season besides breaking the season hit mark, Just also reached career highs by hitting a team-high .379, scoring 64 runs and driving in 53 RBI.

The senior helped lead the Flames to a 39-21 overall record as they reached the final game of the Big South Baseball Championship. Liberty’s 39 wins were the second most in school history and the most Division I wins by a Flames squad. In addition, Liberty won 30-games for the second straight year, only the fourth time in the program’s 32-year history that the Flames have had back-to-back 30-win seasons.

Just continues to stay hot for the past 2 games and raises that BA to .600 going 5 for 7 in his past 2 games. He's now 8 for 15 headin into this long week with games everday beginning on Sunday the 16th. Get em Just, Minor League teams should be picking up a few free agents from independent teams here in the next month or so after they have seen which draft picks might not have signed or been total flops, hopefully Mike will impress enough to catch on. Ill let ya know if Mike hears anything.....
