Bad couple of losses for WU, but they're a shoo-in as at large. The tournament will probably determine a 2 or 3 seed for them I would think. 9-2 versus the Acc and beating a few top 5 in the nation opponents will keep them in there.

Your team will get in no matter what they do in the tournament. Hope WU excels in the NCAA's. Shocked that WU lost to VMI.

I kind of disagree that they're a lock to be in the tournament. Their record vs ACC opponents is amazing but they didn't even win the league. Doesn't that have any say in things?

krh, you are right about Solbach and the tourney this week, odds are he won't see much or any action this week, but his arm is not up par right now...

That has a slight say in things, but Winthrop's RPI (16 going into today according to Boyds World), record against the top 50 and top 100 RPI teams that they've played, etc. make them a tourney lock, even if they go 2-and-out in the Big South tourney.

As I mentioned on another thread in here a couple of weeks ago, Elon got an at-large bid in 2002 while they were in the Big South when they had only won 34 games, finished second in the Big South (behind Coastal), and only won one game in the conference tourney. During that year, they won a series down in Miami and beat a #1 Clemson team...Their RPI ranking was also around 50th in the country...

I'm not saying that a team with that kind of resume would get in every year, but Winthrop's in better shape across the board than that Elon team, so I don't have any doubt that WU is going to be in the field.

That answers my question. I guess with as much emphasis as they put on the RPI and stuff it makes better sense.

well, not to mention where the BS ranks

2nd is something to be proud of...and you look at the season as a success

Winthrop won two of three at Miami, beat UNC and Clemson on the road ... that's enough to get in. They had two really bad weekends in the Big South (Radford, VMI), but that won't be enough to keep them out of the tournament. A 2-and-out in the BST might give the committee some pause, but not much.
