This has to be addressed. We need to get everyone to send the Big South their thoughts on the fact that we are 25-8, 8 weeks in, 16 opportunities to win, and we have only had 1 players recognized as a player of the week. I don't have time to compare every stat today. But I'm almost certain that Miller, Laurent, Grijalva, Just, Gaillard, Solbach, and Thompson have put up good enough numbers to be recognized.

These guys deserve to be recognized and it's up to us to make sure that as flames fans, we make sure that they know we are noticing the glaring absence of Liberty players.

You can't honestly argue a Winthrop player winning it this week, can you? It was a battle of the two most consistent programs in the conference, and Winthrop almost pulled out a sweep. If anyone thought that a player from any school besides Winthrop was going to win player of the week this week then I want some of whatever they're drinking because it must be good stuff.

Not my point - I'm not talking about this week. I'm talking about every week. Top two consistent teams? - Are you going by years past? Liberty has been pretty consistant and I remember a couple of weeks ago when we had Winthrop down by 2 or more runs going into the ninth and lost. CCU - 13-17, 5-4 / Winthrop - 26-9, 6-3 / LIBERTY 25-8, 6-3. I remember when VMI was winning - they had 4 players recognized.

Coastal was a #1 seed last year. Coastal has played a schedule that makes Liberty's look like a tee ball schedule. Liberty had WU down but couldn't hold on. I understand maybe in past weeks we should've had a player recognized but winning is what matters, not player of the week honors.

So far the league has not been out of wack with its selections. Dempsey at Winthrop has just been a hitting a machine and has won it a couple of times. Several weeks he hit several home runs and batted over .600 in a three-game series against teams like Miami and Alabama acing out guys like Laurent, Just, etc.

It is based on the week, not on the overall body of work and it also matters who you have played. If a Liberty player would have had a big series against Winthrop, he probably would have been picked. The player of the week doesn't reward season long consistency. As a matter of fact, it rewards individual stats more than its does team play over one week.

Early on, our guys did not hit and power numbers were low. Now, they are hitting, but they are not driving in a lot of runs or putting up power numbers. None of Liberty players are among the top ten in the Big South in batting average, hits or slugging pct. (measures power numbers) to get it during a week.

The only time a Flame didn't get it that he probably should have was Ryan Page when he tossed the complete game against George Washington. However, he had gotten it the previous week and it played a factor. Solbach has won a lot of games, but even our coaches will tell you he hasn't had the numbers. Each week, he has been nominated, someone has pitched a complete game. The time Solbach pitched his complete game this season, he gave up too many hits and runs as the kid from Birmingham closed down Winthrop.

don't you get it. It is the CONSPIRACY. The anti-Falwell factor rearing its ugly head. Happens all the time.
Woe is us.
Time to dawn the sackcloth and ashes.
Woe is us.

CCU - Hard Schedule? YES - I agree, but that makes them a shoe in to be better than Liberty? We could schedule those games too, but the truth is - they are not competitive against those teams. Don't believe me. 17 Loses - they have 54 total runs, there opponents - 140

Guys - I undertand that every week there is an argument when you compare the numbers - but I gaurentee if Winthrop didn't have great numbers, but were winning - they would find a way to make sure they win some of these awards.

well, you can't deny we do have an uphill battle at times. Unfortunately, my sackcloth is in the wash and I'm outta ashes this week.

I love PROTO though, thats the kinda fight we need at LU.

It was mentioned on another forum that we are regarded as the "we love everbody and don't care that we suck Liberty fans"

That sorta aggrivated me. But for some it may be true. Certainly not what Rock Royer had in mind

Thanks PA.

I know I can sometimes be to loyal - But I'm from Tampa and have been a Bucs Fan since I was like 3 and Tampa produces diehard fans. I'm a diehard LU Fan. I will never give up fighting for Liberty. Say all you want - there is a perception that Liberty fights everyday - and we have to prove ourselves more than anyone else. But that's alright - I have tough skin and don't take much personally.

The Player of the Week award is solely based on the performance from the past week, so you can have great overall numbers, but if you are steady and don't have amazing numbers in any of those weeks, then it is definitely possible to never win the award. Many WU fans were complaining when a WU player didn't win the basketball player of the week award for weeks on end this past season, but if you looked week by week, in almost every case, it was because someone else deserved it. Also, you can have a good team, but no standout individual performances. Give me an undefeated week w/ a balanced lineup before you give me a 3-2 week w/ someone batting .750. I much prefer the wins to the individual awards...
