I hope the girls play with some reckless abandon @ ODU

I was just thinking about this really quickly.

Because we've seen the girls in the tournament so many times, and since a couple of years ago they went to the Sweet 16...I think sometimes we place unrealistically high expectations upon them.

I remember when we played Vanderbuilt...it seemed like that was going to be our best oppertunity to win a tourney game...it was a drivable game for the fans...we were in the game...but it's like we pressure ourselves into that loss with our expectations.

This year it seems to be a similar situation. Our team is a 12 playing a 5 - and we're already getting excited about UVA in round 2! We'e pressuring ourselves. But instead, the attitude should be, "If we lose, so what! We were expected to lose." - we're a 12 playing a 5 on their home floor. All of the pressure should be on ODU, not us...so I hope our girls play that way.

And I just wanted to say in advance, I'm happy with this season, regardless of the outcome. I just hope all of the pressure is on ODU, not us...I think that's one of the keys to LU winning is having that "we've got nothing to lose attitude" instead of comming out tight.

Just a thought.

I worries me that Radford, the team that LU just squeaked by, just got blown out by JMU in the NIT by 25 points. I know that we beat JMU early in the year but of course we had Moriah then too and we are clearly not as good as we were with her on the court. Hopefully Coach Green can come out with a gameplan that will expose ODU's weeknesses and we are hitting shots and not turning the ball over. We have to go out there with the attitude that we have nothing to lose and play with this reckless abandon that you speak of. We just can't go in there and be intimidated and I am sure that Coach Green will have those gals focused and will make adjustments at halftime if we not playing well in the first half.

JMU blew GW by 25 in there too so that doesn't mean that we are a lot worse... :-)

Intimidated and scared will not be a part of Lady Flames basketball. That is the last thing I am worried about with this group. They have been here before guys. Relax. I don't know if we will win but I will say that if we don't it will be because ODU was better that day not because we were scared or played timid. It is interesting that this is Megan's first tournament game. I am sure she will play like the champion that she is. This is a tough draw having to play on their home court but if you can go beat Xavier on their court in their tournament, this game will be on par with that one in terms of degree of difficulty. You can't draw any conclusions from what JMU did to Radford or anyone else. Basketball, and sports in general is about matchups, momentum, setting the tone and many other variables on a given day. I am looking for a good showing tomorrow. I can't wait to get to Norfolk tomorrow!

I think ODU is like a Xavier type team that we played earlier in the season. Big physical post players and quick guard play and they run a lot up and down the court trying to score off of fast break points.
