Come support the girls as they look to notch the school's third ever NCAA tournament victory.

Green said. "I'd be excited with an 11 seed, but a 12 is what they'll probably give us."
Well he was right. Atleast it is in state and hopefully we can get some fans down there.

Maybe Coach McKay will be there, since according to CBSsports.com, he coaches our women's team.

They are playing like 15 minutes from my house! I told COach Green that and he said "well you better be there then."

Here we go again. Another strange pairing for the Lady Flames by a very biased commitee with an obvious political agenda.
The Liberty women have to hold the NCCA record for tournement games played on their opponent's home court. In fact this won't even be the first time that LU was forced to play ODU in oDU's area in the NCAA's.
It's almost impossible to beat the Lady Monarchs on there. I'm sure that they are undeafted at home again this year. They lose at home, say maybe once in every three to five years.

Well...I guess this is the time then...let's be positive.

Wendy Larry is an amazing coach. Having followed ODU for most of my life Ive seen them at their very best (when they made it to the national championship game), and at times when it looked like their streak was going to come to an end. I really honestly think Coach Larry will end up in some sort of basketball hall of fame (or should) once she hangs up her whistle (whenever that may be).

Over on their board they are all incredulous that they were given a 5 seed. Of course they are hosting a subregional as a #5 so I have a hard time feeling sorry for them. They are already talking up a showdown with UVa in Round 2.
This will be no easy matchup by any stretch of the imagination considering our injury situation. But they are far from invincible.

If so, then there is a silver lining here.
Easter Sunday, national televison, Liberty @ ODU.
Even a close loss could yield a great deal of positive exposure for our programs.

Sounds like a great match-up. Sellout crowd in Norfolk on Easter Sunday with the Lady Flames going up against the Lady Monarchs on national television.

Easter Sunday is what is keeping me from attending in person...but a win would get me there on Tuesday for sure.

ODU isn't the same team like they were 12-17 years ago. they are still a good team but they are beatable

Our common opponents were JMU and George Mason. We were 2-0 and they were 3-1, with the loss being at JMU. They pretty much whipped their behinds on their home court, where they were 17-0 on the season.

ESPN analyst thinks LU & Illinois St are the 2 teams seeded 10 or lower most likely to make the sweet 16.

by Cool ODU Guy
Greetings from the Land of the 17 time defending CAA Champions!
I will try to post more as the week goes on, but I wanted to say hello while I have a chance. I'm bummed to be playing you guys in the opening round. I've always had a soft spot for Liberty. When I was in college way back in the 1990's, I spent quite a few weekends hanging out on the LU campus. Such beautiful Christan women. Those were the days.
I think LU has a legit shot in this game. ODU is schizophrenic at times, though we are usually very good at home. The team beat Michigan St, Penn St, won at Vandy and at Kentucky, and also beat Purdue on a neutral court. But the last month we have been rather listless, and have looked down right awful at times (witness the game @ JMU). VCU played an incredible game against us in the CAA Final, and we had to put forth a super effort to pull out the win. Maybe that will get us going for the Big Dance.
My fellow ODU fans get mad at me for saying this, but I think we have a lot of big, strong, athletic girls who aren't full of basketball skill. Don't misunderstand, we do have some very skilled players, but not as many as you'd expect a top 15 ranked team to have. I think ODU got up to 10th in one of the polls this year, but I never thought we were better than maybe top 20. This team certainly isn't as good as the one that made the Elite Eight a few years ago, and no where near the caliber of our runner up 1997 team or the National Championship team of 1983.
The point is, it could be a very good game. I hope all of you are able to either attend or watch on TV. I will stop by and discuss hoops with you folks as the week progresses. I must now go meet the electrician. Ugh.

Welcome to our little slice of the sports universe. I can't speak for the rest of the board but I look forward to hearing from you throughout the run-up to this game.
I remember watching the 1997 team make its run to the national championship game and listening to the games while I was doing homework in my room. (I was in eighth grade in Chesapeake that season)

welcome ODU guy. a good matchup indeed, but ODU wins this on their home court. i just do not see an upset with the injuries we have, but funnier things have happened.
