Rough night...a lot of banging under the basket...I now recall how BRUTALLY HORRIBLE Big South WBB officiating is.

I just got done watching the game on MASN and we did pull away down the stretch 70-62. It looked like it was slipping away from us when Radfurd went ahead but we kept our composure after having double digit leads throughout the game. Radfurd is tough, they blocked countless shots and that one gal hit everything she threw up including some of the acrobatic variety. Megan was great as she really carried the team down the stretch. Everyone stepped it up when we had to but I think the team is still a little down after losing Moriah and now Rebekah Lightfoot. I hope that she is okay. Radfurd is much better than I thought. A Good win!

wow thats a first for you being that i bought that to your attention at the game

For the record, the last WBB I was at was 3 years ago...I worked that game on the bench covering for the WBB athletic trainer...and High Point broke our 50 game conference win streak...and Coach told me he never wanted to see me at another game (joking, of course).

You have got to be kidding me. This is ridiculous with our luck and acl tears.

It was a knee injury, and it would be no great surprise if it is an ACL. That injury has become a virtual epidemic among female athletes, and especially BB players as the women are playing with more and more intensity and attempting to emulate the things the men do.

I read an article a couple of years ago about a study which was done on this and concluded that most women have a degree of natural instability in the knee joint because their quads are stronger than their hamstrings and that extra strengthening of the hamstrings with leg curls and other related exercises can help reduce the risk of ACL injuries. I would hope our trainers and strength coaches know about this and we are incorporating it into our training.

If it's true, they will certainly miss her, especially with Moriah out too, but we are blessed with extraordinary depth up front. Egle seems to be coming along, and Megan went 40 minutes against Radford, which quite frankly makes us better IMHO. Molly will play a few more minutes a game, and we will need to work Kittery into the regular rotation for maybe 10 minutes.

I guess my previous post could be construed as implying that our trainers and coaches might be something other than the top notch professionals which they are, and I didn't mean do do that at all. Of course injuries are going to happen no matter what you do.

I'd be interested in hearing Fumble's thoughts about what preventative measures can be done as well.

Trust me, our Certified Athletic Trainers and the Strength Coaches know all about this and the preventative exercise. You just can't overcome how God has made the sexes different, sometimes...and that plays a big role in why females have 2-3x the incident of ACL injuries.
