Apparently Asheville is only going to dress six players for this one.

nice to be able to put it out of reach early, then play the bench.

good experience, and keep the bigs fresh for the post-season

I love it when a plan comes together

Right now we are up 28-18 with Ashville shooting 44% and basically it is keeping them in the game. Normally we hold opponents to around 25% so I will see what happens toward the end of the first half. Hopefully can go on a run and let the subs take over.

Live Stats

Interestingly enough, all seven UNCA players have scored in the first half.

Moriah is player of the game with 18 points and 8 boards. Nice game. Second half a little sloppy.

We didn't play well at all, but were never threatened.

I wasn't at the game but maybe we were playing to their level in the second half instead of going for the 40 point blowout that I expected. It happens from time to time since the competition in the Big South for the most part is very weak.

LU women avenge another loss from '07

Lynchburg News & Advance

Liberty point guard Allyson Fasnacht didn't have any problem admitting it. The Flames have had a little extra bounce their step the last two times they've stepped on the floor, and for good reason.

Wednesday, the opponent was Radford, the school that ended its 10-year run of NCAA tournament berths with a Big South tournament win over the Flames last March. LU beat the Highlanders by 13 on the road. Saturday, UNC Asheville took the floor opposite Liberty, and one memory stood out in Fasnacht's mind.

"They came in here on Senior Night last year and beat us," she said. "We weren't having that today."

I think we kind of were content and satisfied knowing we would win the game. I don't like that mindset, but they can't be on their A+ game every night. It's good to see we can have an of night and still not be threatened.

The main point here is to keep improving our national ranking. If we loose or get challenged this year in this conference then it could be the end of us getting votes in the top 25 unless we make some noise in the tourney.

Part of that is coach Greene's philosophy on substitutions. If the game is not in the balance, he plays everyone. Megan had a monster first half, then got a cheap 3rd foul call early in the 2nd half and sat out like 7 minutes. When she came back in she had lost her edge, but fortunately Moriah took up the slack. If it were not for Cary's "charitable" approach, our margins of victory in the BSC this year would be even bigger. I'm not saying he is wrong, and he believes that utilizing our depth wears down our opponents. I agree only to a point. I think a "star" player like Megan needs to play about 30 minutes or more to be at her best, and long stretches on the bench will affect a player's effectiveness if they are used to playing more.

I do believe in Coach Green's philosopy of playing everyone since he recruited everyone to get respectable minutes in game situations and not just participate in practice or take up space on the pine. You also have to develop players for the future and the best way is give them significant game time experience and when there time is come they are ready and don't have to face a tough transition. The flip side is that our national ranking might take a beating since we are competing against inferior teams in the Big South as opposed to most of the tougher out of conference teams. Whoever is responcible for the national rankings or whatever committee knows that and sometimes our power ratings slip a bit since if we are not rolling it up on the BSC teams all of the time. Of course you can't argue with Coach Green's success at LU. He is put here for a reason and we should be grateful that he is here and not at Clemson.

Why do the best teams always play their starters 30+ minutes every game? When they get a 10 point lead, they do not start dumping subs in the game. It's no wonder our team is a turnover machine. This team has been more than capable of turning several under 10 point margins of victory into 30+ point wins. This team does not have a strong bench, they just have many players. No matter how bad the other team has been, when we put 5 subs on the floor, the opposing teams closes the margin. Has anybody noticed what looked like an obvious blowout game turning into a mad dash at the end? And who are the 5 starters on this team? I have watched this team fighting for a victory at the end of the game when they should have been up by 20. That seems to be when Coach Green finally unveils who the 5 starters are. This should have been the time when the subs could come in and finish out the last couple of minutes as is common practice after the victory has been secured. Everybody likes to see the practice players get a chance to get in the game as a reward for their time and effort, but wait until the victory is secure!!

You obviously have a problem with Coach Green, I don't know why. Look at his resume:

He is 206-66- that is a winning percentage of 75.74%
He has been a head coach at LU for 8 years and has made the NCAA tournament in 7.
He has made it to the sweet 16.

You say he can't recruit, yet he has hauled in Katie Feenstra one of the nation's premier centers to little ol' LU. I think we can say getting Megan to come here was a good recruiting job. He has brought in Coach Sherard to help in this area which shows humility.

We are 21-2, go bark up another tree.

And if anything, the things you are crying about show his confidence in his team. He knows we outclass this conference, so he is getting all of his girls some playing time so we are ready for the Tournaments. We could be blowing everyone out of the water, and we still do really.

This girls team is very, very good. There really isn't much to not like about it. I think you need to change your name, "Go Flames".
