If We Run The Table...

Where would that type of season stand in Team history?

30-2, Big South Champs, Undefeated in the conference...

Not saying it WILL. Just wondering, historically, where a season like that would stand?

And does anyone think it is possible?

NO. not REMOTELY. Do you forget your boundless optimism early on, then absolute despair after a loss?

I don't think it would happen. I just don't know the history of the program.

We haven't played RU or WU yet, no way of saying how good we are compared to them.

I can see 25-26 wins tho, but not 30.

Just curious.

edited my original post as to not be a killjoy

I'm pretty sure Coach isn't entertaining the thought- but I suppose anything is possible.

WU probably wouldn't be the threat that RU is. Oddly enough

Oh, RU was picked to win the conference, I would think they are the biggest threat...

Chuck has been pulling some upsets, too.

Have we had a 30 win season before? or a undefeated conference run?

best record I could find was in 1997-98, under Rick Reeves (28-1)

we were undefeated in conf that season, for sure

EDIT: add 02-03, 03-04, and multiple 1 loss seasons in the same era

We had an undefeated regular season and Big South Championship in 1998 and it earned us a #16 seed to face another undefeated team from Knoxville.

The best season we've ever had was when we made it to the sweet 16. Nothing can top that unless we get back there. Our next best season had to be when we went 28-1 our only loss being to #1 Tennessee. If we were to go 30-2 this year, that would top that year because of the level of play. Then, we would have to make the sweet 16 in order to top Katie's senior year.

IMO I'm expecting to run the table in-conference, won't be surprised if we stumble somewhere, but I'm expecting it. This team is focused after last year.

The problem with comparing the 28-1 team in '98 to anything now is that ten years ago, the womens side of the Big South was WEAK. Not a whole lot has changed, except that Liberty is now a top 100 team perennially. No doubt, the Sweet 16 group is the best to date, and this team would need to make some noise of a similar nature in the NCAA's in order to compare.

But I think they can. I think their seeding will be better, giving them a better match-up. And I think they DO finish 30-2.

If we win at Radford and High Point, I think we will go undefeated in-conference. Radford has shown they are good, but they are also inconsistent. We haven't won at High Point in two years. Winthrop looks great on paper and wouldn't be surprised to see them finish 2nd in the conference standings, but thats due to High Point rebuilding and Radford's streakyness.

I think anything short of a undefeated conference schedule would be a bit disappointing to the staff. I say they will do it.
