The most successful program on Liberty Mountain deserves its own forum. We give Coach Green and the Lady Flames their props while breaking down their run to the Big Dance once again.

I know its very early and the Lady Flames have to take care of business in the Big South first and Foremost. According to http://www.collegerpi.com/women LU is projected as a 9 seed playing against 8 seed Texas A&M. interesting if the flames can run the table as to what seed we will get.

It depends on how much they respect our non-conference record. Beating up on the Big South has typically only earned us a seed in the teens. A 9 seed would be welcome, but it'd mean we'd get killed in the second round by a 1 (unless its Maryland)

I'd take a 9 seed right now and not play another game. Atrain, you have to remember we've only won a tourney game one year. So, getting a 9 seed would set us up with a decent matchup in the first round to get a W.

projected seeding will probably drop as season goes on, even if LU keeps winning

Probably will, but we've never been higher than a 13. Would be great to be anywhere above that.

That would be fun in the Sly household.

The way NCAA WBB is today, an 8 or 9 seed is really horrible as far as any chance to advance very far, because although you have a winnable first round game, you will be facing a juggernaut in the second round. The reality is that there is a huge dropoff in talent level after about the first 3 seeds (12 overall). We would be much better off with a 12 or 13 seed. The first round game against a 4 or 5 is still winnable, and you get a similarly seeded opponent (or another upset winner) in the second round.

I disagree with this. We’ve only won an NCAA tourney game in one season. One! One in all our years of success! If we were to get an 8/9 seed that would be huge in terms of chances to win a game. Some people on this board think we should be in the sweet 16 and beyond every year. Unrealistic.

Plus, the higher seed we are able to earn, the better our chances of getting higher seeds in future years.

Note the highlighted part of my OP. Of course it would be a huge feather in the cap of our program in and of itself to get a higher seed; but in the current landscape of women's basketball, a huge disproportion of talent is in the top few programs, with a lot of parity in the next 30 or 40. I don't believe there is that much difference between playing an 8 or a 5 in the first round, and a huge difference between playing a 4/5/6 as opposed to a 1/2/3 in the second round if you win in the first.

I will be exctatic if we simply get in, and if we do, considering the non-conference wins we have, I think we will be no worse than a 12.

Sorry i agree with oldflame....the 8/9 game would be awful to get. Im not saying i got unrealistic expectations, but to have any shot at winning more than 1 game i agree you want to stay away from the top 12 teams if you can.

For advancing past the 2nd round, yes the 8/9 game would be awful, but to get to the 2nd round (which would be a HUGE accomplishment considering it's only been done one other time) the 8/9 would be better than anything else we would get.

I think you guys are underestimating how good our team was a few years ago when we made the sweet 16. Not only did we have one of the top 5 players in the country, but we were extremely deep and had several girls who could score double figures.

haven't we played depaul twice in the tourney the past 2 times we've gone? they beat us two years ago the last time we went.

I just thought of this at the game Saturday, we could get an at large if we didn't win our conference tourney.

IMHO, if we were to win out and get upset in the finals of the BSC tourney, we would have a good case for an at large.

Im afraid thats the only case though. Otherwise i see pretty much no chance of an at large...

I say we have to win the BSC regardless if we are undefeated in the regular season in conference. I cannot see the NCAA taking 2 teams from the Big South in any way shape or form. not enough respect for the conf.

I agree that there is no respect for the conference, but IMHO our program has seperated itself from the rest of the BSC in the eyes of the national media. A combination of, what is it, 10 NCAA bids in 11 years? along with our sweet 16 run has gotten peoples attention. In addition, we have wins over top 50 RPI teams, including at least one on the road. How teams like Xavier, James Madison and Richmond do the rest of the year could play a factor.

Having said all that, I honestly don't think any of the teams in the BSC have got anything for our ladies this year. The term "on a mission" may have been a bit overused,.............................................. but it fits!

I don't think they'll lose either, but there's no way they wouldn't take a team with an RPI in the top 30 and only 3 losses.

8-10 seed is the kiss of death for us in terms of sweet sixteen possibilities. Winning a first round game is like hitting single (still a very good thing for our program), while going to the Sweet Sixteen is like hitting a home run for a Big South team.

I would much rather us draw an 11-12 seed.
