Waynesboro standout Devon Brown will play for Liberty University

WAYNESBORO — Devon Brown has made her decision.

The Southern Valley District's premier girls' basketball player is headed to Liberty University.

Brown inked a letter of intent for a full basketball scholarship Monday at Waynesboro High School before over a dozen friends, family members, coaches and school officials.

She enters her final year of play for the Little Giants with 1,812 career points and 806 rebounds.

The talented post player narrowed her collegiate selection to James Madison University and Liberty, but chose the Lynchburg school.

Update ...
Waynesboro’s main offensive threat is no secret at all. Liberty University signee Devon Brown, who had 45 points in her first district outing, will be the focal point of the offense.

“Her name speaks for herself,” said (former St. Johns star and now Waynesboro head coach) Secrett Stubblefield, who occasionally gets out and plays with the players. “She’s a great player and leader. Whatever type of season she has, we’ll have.”

And she has a sister on the team who is a sophomore. :D

Sounds like the HS competition in her conference is not much of a challenge for her, but she has a lot of AAU experience, and her coach there compared her to Maryland star Kristi Toliver. He should know, sice he is Kristi's dad (and a former NBA ref).

I think

A summer of preparation

Former Waynesboro standout Devon Brown is on the move at Liberty University, preparing for her NCAA Division I debut in the Big South Conference this fall.

Brown has been hitting the books at summer school while working out for her new squad and it has been a busy month for the newest addition to the Flames squad. She led the Virginia High School Coaches Association West all-stars to a victory with 17 points on July 1 in Hampton and was named the MVP days before making the trip to her new home in Lynchburg.

After the final touches were added on her high school career, the VHSL’s second highest all-time scorer now faces a world of fiercer competition on the hardwood.

“This is a whole different level than playing in high school,” Flames coach Carey Green said. “When some of our seniors return, they are not going to just give up their places.”
