The most successful program on Liberty Mountain deserves its own forum. We give Coach Green and the Lady Flames their props while breaking down their run to the Big Dance once again.

It appears Coach Green has dipped into the JUCO pool for next season:

Image
Amber Mays
5' 7" Guard
Sedalia (MO) State Fair CC
Prep: Pasadena (CA) High School

She is listed as a 2nd Team Preseason All American in NJCAA for the '07-'08 Season

2006-2007 Freshman Season: Honorable Mention All American averaging 12 Pts, 4.6 Assists & 3.4 Steals

She appears to be a penetrator and playmaker more than a shooter. She hit just 2 of 12 attempts from behind the arc as a freshman.

Well I hope she is a playmaker, we seem to be lacking in that area on the women’s team the last couple of years.

Actually, that was exactly what I thought when I read the thread title. "She must be good for Green to sign a JUCO player." Can anyone remember any previous Lady Flame JUCO recruits? I can't think of a single one.

Actually, we may all be jumping the gun a bit, since this is in fact only a verbal committment.

Yes we did have a JUCO about 4 years ago. I think that her name was Andrea Dawson. A backup small forward, very athletic but not a great shooter. Descent player if you ask me.

This JUCO they just signed is great addition to the program who should replace Allison Fasnact when she graduates.

don't jump the gun, just a verbal...but a pretty firm one, from what I hear.

So you all think it will be Amber not Rachel starting at point next year?

Which Rachael are you referring to, Hammond or McLeod? Rachael Hammond will be the no 2 guard. The competition for point guard would be between Rachael McCleod and Amber.

I'm sure he was referring to McLeod.

I'm confused .... what about current redshirt Avery Warley? Is she not still redshirting? I was SO in hopes of watching what she can bring to the table.

this is her first year at LU and she is redshirting to focus on her grades. She should be playing next season. I have seen her practice a little bit and she is a very athletic post player who rebounds with tenacity and plays some good defense. she should hopefully be contributing right away next season.
