Birmingham Southern has never beaten Liberty (12 straight losses) and I think tomorrow night will be more of the same

This game should be a blowout. A tuneup for the High Point game on Saturday.

We're only by four at the break against a bad BSC team.

Nice to see that one end. Good thing we were playing a team as bad as Birmingham south. Could have been looking ahead a bit.

Coach Green talking right now and is not happy with the teams performance at all. He said that this win feels like a loss. Speaking of the turnovers and sloppy play right now.

20% from 3pt range
WTF? I can make 20%. Esp w/ THAT ball

Megan w/ the double/double, but the only one even remotely close. In fact, looks like the only one in double figures.
25 T/Os and 35% from the floor is about abhorrent against this caliber opponent.
I'm calling this one an aberration and saying we forget it even happened. Betting Coach won't, though!

one positive (aside from the fact that we WON) is that it looks as though we kept the PFs in check nicely. Only 2 players even had as many as two. Not bad at all .

LU Flames struggle in BSC win
By Chris Lang
Lynchburg News & Advance
February 6, 2007
The Liberty women's basketball program generally embraces high expectations. It's part of the territory for a team that has won the last 11 Big South regular-season championships.
It also accepts the inevitable criticism that occurs when it doesn't play at a high level, as was the case in an ugly 52-44 victory over Big South bottom feeder Birmingham-Southern Monday night at Vines Center.
"It would be easy to say that this win feels like a loss, and that's basically because the expectations are so high," Liberty coach Carey Green said. "Yet I don't think (those expectations) are unrealistic. I don't know if they play down (to the competiton). I can't quite figure out what motivates this group. Sometimes, you have to play some ugly games and win. But you better learn lessons and step back and have some reflective thinking, and then take three steps forward."
Liberty (14-8, 6-1 Big South) had 25 turnovers, shot 35 percent and never had a double-digit lead. It 12 previous meetings with the Panthers (6-16, 1-6), the margin of victory was never less than 10.
Yet with less than a minute left, the same Birmingham-Southern bunch that lost by 33 point at Radford Saturday was within 48-44, with a shot to cut it to two. Predictably, the Panthers panicked, and Mallory Morring took a heavily contested, awkward jumper that missed everything. Liberty rebounded and hit four free throws to close the game out.
"If you would have told me this morning we would be within two possessions with a minute to go, I would have liked our chances," BSC coach Brad Hodge said, adding "you would have thought we threw in the towel after that game Saturday."
It's been a trying year for Birmingham-Southern, which voted in the spring to drop from Division I to Division III in all sports, beginning next fall. Most of the school's men's sports folded up shop for the year due to player attrition. Hodge had two starters transfer, and he was the only BSC coach walking the sideline Monday. One assistant is pregnant and due any day now. Another has a mother who is gravely ill and is away from the team indefinitely.
Megan Frazee was the only Flame to reach double figures, scoring 19 points on 8 of 14 shooting to go along with 10 rebounds. The Flames outrebounded BSC 23-11 in the second half. The Panthers shot 27 percent and went 3 of 10 from the free-throw line.
"Tonight, we weren't really tough," Frazee said. "We had the size advantage down low and really didn't take advantage of our opportunities. ? I don't think it's a matter of Xs and Os right now, per se. It's a matter of being mentally and physically tough."
Liberty took a one-half game lead in the Big South standings over idle High Point, which plays Charleston Southern at home tonight before visiting Lynchburg Saturday for a rematch of Jan. 20's matchup in North Carolina, a 64-62 HPU overtime victory.
"Our girls know the importance of who they're playing Saturday," Green said. "I have confidence that they're going to be a little more focused."

I don't think that it would be possible to play that bad 2 games in a row. Cary Green will have those gals prepared for the "Big game" this Saturday as he usually always does.

yeah- the more I read about that game the worse it looks.

Coach Green will have those girls ready to play. They beat CSU 63-49 last year in the game before te showdown with High Point and the next game out they took it to the Panthers and won 62-53. Even though this game was uglier, I'm pretty certain Coach Green is going to have them ready to do the same. Not to mention, we had back to back home games Monday-Saturday last week and after winning ugly of Winthrop 69-42 we went out and dominated Radford next time out.

Third straight Saturday with first place on the line coming up.
BTW -- I goofed up the regular-season titles in the story. Should be LU going for their 10th straight, not 11th. Get the regular-season and tournament mixed up sometimes.

I know how these girls are feeling. My highschool team is dominating our conference but a couple games against the basement dwellers and we just didn't bring the intensity. We wrote it off as an easy win and didn't come out fighting. (We still won.) I think that is exactly what happened last night.
Just a thought: The scoreboard almost looked like one of mine, low scoring.
