CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For the first time in League history, the Big South Conference will video stream live its women’s basketball home Conference games free on the its premium content website, The Big South EDGE presented by Aéropostale, it was announced today by Big South Commissioner Kyle B. Kallander. All Conference games involving Big South members will be available exclusively online beginning with the 2006-07 season, and the webcasts will utilize a one-to-three camera production with home audio, when available. The free package is presented by new Big South sponsor Havoc energy drink.

“The Big South Conference has been a leader in utilizing new media to promote its student-athletes and institutions,” said Kallander. “Broadcasting every women’s basketball Conference game via the Internet will provide unprecedented exposure for our outstanding women’s basketball programs and allow fans across the globe to see the tremendous play of our student-athletes.”

The video stream of women’s basketball games and all Big South events, which will also be available on a video-on-demand basis for subscribers of The EDGE, requires a high-speed internet connection (DSL, cable or above), Microsoft Windows Media Player 9.0 or greater downloaded and installed, and a screen resolution of 800x600 or greater, among other requirements. An annual subscription of The EDGE costs $69.95 and runs one year from the date of sign-up and includes live sporting events and championships, interviews and exclusive access to on-demand video and features.

In addition to the live webcasts during the regular-season, the first round of the Advance Auto Parts Women’s Basketball Championship will be video streamed live from the Justice Center in Asheville, N.C., on Thursday, March 8. The semifinals will be televised on the Big South Television Network (BSTN), Friday, March 9, while the Finals will air on SportSouth and Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic on Saturday, March 10 at 2:00pm. BSTN is the syndicate created by the League in 2001 to serve as a distributor of games to Conference markets. SportSouth is the re-branded Turner South network and can be found where Turner South was on respective cable systems.
