Close game for 3 quarters thus far, tied at 39. G-W has forced 26 LU turnovers in only 3 quarters.

GW hurried our pace and made us play fast with their press. We don't do that very well. Take Ellis out of the game and force others to handle the ball is what is working for the opposition and leads to 31 TOs today, 29 last game, etc. Brooke Alexander has to get in the game - she's a good ball handler/passer. Fisher-Davis, Johnson and Rettstatt not so good in ball handling. Leatherwood is serviceable at the 1. We need scoring and rebounding from the 3 - Brooke Alexander.

I wouldn't call 61-57 up tempo

Having watched the game this is what I took from it. GW took 70 + shots and forced 31 TOs. They outhustled us and were the aggressor and yes they forced the tempo to take our bigs out of the game and to deny Ellis the ball and we have poor secondary ballhandlers. We had 3 straight plays where we never made across half court! If there is a better word to describe their play than I'm willing to add to my vocabulary :) They only shot 25% which accounts for their low tally but they took 25 more shots than us  Just my observations.

Toward the end of the game, Rininger would take a pass at about 3 point line in the backcourt, and she would dribble it past half court, only to be trapped, where she would try to dribble it behind her back, and then a smaller guard would steal it from her. This happened 2 or 3 straight times.

2008-2009 season...they went on to win 24 games (including a 15-1 Big South record) and won the Big South regular season and tournament championships

That same year they were 3-7 at one point in the season before ripping off an 18 game winning streak

Yep. We got somewhat of a brief respite last year thanks to a graduate senior transfer guard who had 4 years of coaching at another school. Unfortunately it looks like we have to accept this as something that will never change. Cary Green teams will lead the world in combined rebounds and turnovers.

Talent level in the Big South is catching up with LU

As long as he keeps winning big south titles he isn't going anywhere but this turnover trend has bothered me for years.

Agreed postie...it is quite frustrating to watch.

That said, the Big South has been "catching up" for years, but yet somehow nobody has caught and passed Liberty as the top dog in the conference. A few times someone else has won the championship. but somehow, the Lady Flames manage to win the conference title. For the most part, you gotta beat the girls in red white and navy blue to get that trophy and go dancing

I think the term "trend" is being kind.

They were I think closest to taking the "alpha dog" spot of anyone when she was there...but her departure set them back even though coach Ngongba did get a win (or two I can't remember) against Liberty while she was there

If someone beats you that sorta insinuates that they have caught and passed you.
There have been a couple of other BSC winners who have gone to the tournament. Lu has just done it the most

Definitely. Buer fell on our lap last year and made us a very good team. Buer, Frazier and Ellis were on the floor together a lot. They are 3 point guards that helped reduce TOs dramatically last year. Coach recruits bigs but guards who are efficient in ball handling has not been a priority. It seems more important to win the battle of the boards than to win the battle of TOs. Outside of Ellis there are no dependable ball handlers and teams have figured that out; hence the full court/half court trapping presses. Might be a long year given the parity in BSC even though perennial powers HPU and Winthrop have underachieved so far.

Fair point, but all three of those were anomalies in what has been a dominating time in the Big South for Lady Flames basketball.

Even after LU has been knocked off, they come back the next year and take the alpha dog spot right back. Nobody has found a way to stay on top other than Liberty, even with all of the turnover issues. Until someone is able to catch, pass and stay ahead of LU, the road to March is going to likely go through the gals in red, white and navy blue

What about grey? They have those uni's as well
It would have been nice to see an At Large bid the years LU didn't make the NCAA Tourney
