Former Albemarle boys basketball standout Jamel Ross logged 1,156 points between 1994-97, and his scoring record has lasted for 17 years.
Ross’ school record for both boys and girls is safe for at least a few more days, but probably not much longer.
Going into Tuesday night’s season opener with Covenant, AHS girls’ co-captain KK Barbour was 31 points shy of breaking Ross’ total. Barbour took several long breaks in each quarter, but the senior netted 25 points in the Patriots’ 58-39 win over the visiting Eagles.
