The most successful program on Liberty Mountain deserves its own forum. We give Coach Green and the Lady Flames their props while breaking down their run to the Big Dance once again.

Only stumbling block LU could face would be HPU in the final, otherwise y'all will blow through the field.

Even with the rebuild, I was very disheartened with GW's season and not even making the conference tourney after making the dance last year.

As was your coaching staff. They had a bunch of tough breaks this year.

For a while (at least as long as Ive been around), the Big South Tournament was held at home sites of the higher seed (they did single site before that but I think it was regular season champ that hosted). What that inevitably led to with Liberty's run of championships is that the Big South Championship game was annually (with a couple exceptions) played in the Vines Center. They decided in I think 2008 that theyd go with the single site so they took bids and they accepted High Point's bid to host for two years. When renewal came up they renewed again with High Point. They are changing the format for next year and having both the men's and women's tournament the same week so they may be renegotiating the site for next year.

I went back thru my email folder and found an email I received from bIg South conference back in February of 2010, when I contacted them and asked how the school with worst gym was hosting tourney. they replied back and stated that schools submitting bid to host ahev to be able to provide amentities, accomadations and satisify a number of tournament requirements, and the arena itself is a factor. Something tells me that LU must not have submitted a bid, because I know LU is better than High Point in every way.

It was put up for bids and their proposal was selected. It's a nice central location within the conference geographic footprint, and although some people may think the Millis Center is a bandbox, the fact is it is more than large enough for this event, and a somewhat full small venue makes for a much better atmosphere than a cavernous arena with a few hundred spectators and thousands of empty seats.

I have never been to HP University, but I find it hard to believe they submitted the best proposal, unless they were the only school to apply. LU has HP beat in EVERY category.

It's not a contest about which school is better. The fact is, LU would actually be a poor site for this event. It's not conveniently located for the majority of conference teams and the Vines is really too big. I have attended several games at the Millis Center, and can say that it is a nice little facility, and High Point has a beautiful campus.

Olldflame raises a good point (and deep down you know that ballcoach). Ive been to Big South women's championship games in the Vines Center and theyve had to limit everyone to one side of the arena so it would look better on television because the crowd was usually sparse enough that if they used all the seats, it would look downright empty on television. Now if I heard correctly there is thought of having a smaller venue for things like volleyball and women's basketball eventually (kinda like UNC does with the Smith Center and Carmichael Auditorium) and that would be more workable for LU to host but in the meanwhile I think itd be wiser to wait on LU hosting

The UNC women do something similar by playing in Carmichael and a few in the Dean Dome but had to get a Title IX waiver.

I have discovered the solution. LU bid for tourney and we win the bid, host tourney in LCA gym. that way it can be full and TV folks be happy. In all honesty, I hear LCA gym is bigger and better than HP's.

I'll try this one more time. High Point's arena is perfect for the Conference Tourney. It's centrally located, and also, is not too big.

What is it you have against HP and their facility? You said yourself you have never been there. Who told you the LCA gym is better? It's not, but if it were, that does not change the fact that High Point is a much more convenient location than Lynchburg for the majority of the BSC schools and their fans.

I bleed Liberty RED. That said...
High Point is the best arena for the Woman's Tournament.
Perfect size, nice, good parking/access, centrally located, and easy local driving.
Haven't been to the new Ashville arena yet but it is much farther away and the campus parking is not that good. CS is now the Conference embarrassment for a tv game.
The Vines is great only when it's full which hasn't happened in a long time mens or womans.
Oh !! to see Jerry body surfing again. Matt, Peter, and Elana thanks and we miss you.
