It appears Carra Coy will not be with the team next year from what I see. She went from an apparent redshirt to helping pass out towels during games. Any information on her. Bringing in 3 capable bigs next year may spell trouble for her. We will have 7 girls at the 4 and 5 (without Carra) unless we redshirt one of the incoming freshmen and look to JUCO to add a capable and quick guard which semed to be our achilles heel (TOs, FT and speed) this year. Otherwise, we have 4 players at the 1and 2 -Devon, Lakendra, Emily and Reagan. I don't see Tereka being a contributer IMO. I think our biggest need is PG in the order of Dominique Hudson (G-W) or Kendall Shepherd (UNCA).

It is really hard to realistically project any significant role for Cara in the future. We have 3 bigs returning who are clearly better than her and 3 coming in who very likely are. We have 3 seniors leaving and 4 recruits signed. The numbers don't add up, so unless someone transfers out for their own reasons, one player will not have her scholarship renewed.

My thoughts exactly. It's too bad because she's such a nice young woman.

Why do you always think a JUCO pg is the answer? What about a Freshman? Like I said I know of 2 in the area that would fit the bill. Both athletic and able to run offensive sets. One is on the small side and is a Ivory Latta clone and the other had interest from G-W.(Of course I am biased towards her!)
I agree that we have plenty of "bigs" and we do play to our strengths.!

We had a freshmen point guard this year. As Carey Green said we had the whole team coming back (minus Amber Mays) with the expectation we would do as well or better. We didn't. I know its not all the PG's fault but . . . . Amber Mays had a + Assist/TO ratio, the 2 PGs this year had a - Assist/TO ratio. If there is an Ivory latta clone I would have assumed she would be playing in the ACC and would have been signed in the fall like most of the talent. I think its hard to go from playing against HS talent and taking on the pressure of D1 basketball. I'd rather have Ivory latta as a freshmen at PG for LU and have her 4 years. Offer her a contract

Can we convert Carra Coy to play PG?

Carra honestly never really got a chance. She certainly didnt show herself as trying to earn a place on the court, but I would not call her a total bust. We can speculate about whether the girls coming in will be better, but we dont know that with any certainty because they AREN'T here...
As for the PG...Im with PH...who is to say that a JUCO has to always be the answer? Do you want to keep having to replace your pint guard every two years? What kind of message will that send to potential high school guards that may be considering coming to the mountain?

It's just based on a "win now" mentality. JUCO's usually play against better competition than HS seniors so the transition to D-1 basketball isn't as drastic. While I agree it'd be nice to have an impact freshman at PG next year, we only have one more year of Avery Warley. Having an athletic pg with some experience would help us a ton next year.

Have you actually SEEN some of the talent on the women's JUCO side? Go watch a PHCC game sometime then tell me they play better competition than HS players.

We've had 2 JC point guards in the last 3 years. From a basketball standpoint, I would say we are 1 for 2. I wouldn't be surprised to see Jelena play the point some next year, along with Emily and incoming Freshman Reagan Miller. Our turnover problems this year were not exclusive to one position. Devon and Jelena were among the worst offenders and earlier in the season so was Avery. The entire team needs to improve their focus and value the ball more.

Haha ok will do. Honestly, I haven't seen a Women's JUCO game, just a couple men's games. However, it just seems that a player with a couple more years of experience under their belt would serve us better than having a freshman starting (unless of couse that freshman is an immense talent). I'll be more than happy to be proven wrong though if we could find an impact freshamn.

We may have to play our freshman class next year, but personally I'm really excited to see them play.

Next year could be our year given the talent and it being Avery's senior season. I'm just saying we can take advantage of our maturity and talent if the team were lead by a point guard like Amber Mays, even though she lacked quicknes I would prefer. I haven't written off Emily or Reagan, since I have not seen her play. The comments I read about Reagan is that her competitiveness allows her to play with quicker guards (paraphrasing). Emily seemed to be in over her head this year, missing open shots, layups forcing passes, etc. It's not to say she can improve and become the next Allison FasnachtI would prefer (and probably Coach as well) both a quick ballhandler with great ball skills, a take charge mentality and also an offensive presence, similar to what Amber brought (minus her poor foul shooting).
