I hope to have my entire crew up at Reed Arena Monday night. Sure wish we had both Devon & Avery healthy to face the Aggies.

Do you have an update on their status since yesterday's game?

I'll be rolling up to Aggieland with Sly Jr. this afternoon. The team is sticking around Texas all week and spending Thanksgiving at the families of the many Texans on the team.

Things not looking too promising right now as we are down 22-6. TAM is shooting 75% and we have 9 turnovers already. I hope that we can keep it respectable.

What browser are you using. I've tried to bring it up on my computer but there is not a feed showing.

Doing well on the boards but our shooting is a bit off. Still racking up the turnovers. Still down by 13.

31 turnovers. TAM is one of the best defensive teams in the nation. They are cat quick and apply relentless pressure. That 's their philosophy. I think its the offensive philosophy - pass it around until we can force it into the low post or low blocks and get a high percentage shot. This is where the majority of the turnovers occur. The other problem is our post players don't shoot foul shots very well unlike the Frazees. We really need an outside and consistent threat to open the inside. Nonetheless, we're a better team with a healthy Avery and Devon.

That was really hard to watch. The positive is that we are getting minutes for our whole team in tough competition. Hopefully, when Devon comes back, the experience the others are gaining will make us that much better!

Jelena only played 17 minutes and scored just 2 points. I wonder if she is healthy. Tough to compete with teams of this calibre when your #1 scorer is out and #2 and 3 combine for 4 points.

Will Devon really help cut down that many turnovers?

From my vantage point baseline I offer up a few observations:

* We seemed a bit intimidated in the early going and that led to a slew of turnovers. Avery & everyone down low seemed uncharacteristically timid which led to senseless fouls and turnovers as everyone looked for someone else to score

* Jelena was a foul magnet and that kept her from being any type of factor at all. But even she seemed reluctant to shoot the ball when she had open looks in the first few minutes of the game. After she fouled out, I loved seeing her steel as she refused to sit on bench after the Aggy hecklers were chanting to her to sit down.

* Dymond Morgan was fearless & relentless. She didn't have the tools to finish at times but she forced the action and had the Ags on their heels in stretches off the bench. This makes back-to-back games where she has earned more minutes and I expect her to see plenty against Baylor.

* The true freshmen are ballers. Both Emily & Jasmine showed some serious skill and I am jazzed to think about not only what these two can accomplish the next few years but this season as well.

* Lakendra Washington can be an X-factor for us. She has the ability to heat things up in a hurry. She's aggressive and has a nice touch. But she really needs to learn how to keep under control on the break.

We stopped at a Chik-Fil-A in College Station before the game and as we were standing in line, a girl next to my son turned and called him by name. She was one of the student coaches from HCYA. They brought the entire boys & girls teams up dressed in Liberty gear to cheer on Emily, Rachel and the rest of the Flames. Hopefully some of them will make the trip to South padre this weekend since it looks like the Sly Fox clan won't be going after all. But I digress ...

My most proud moment came after the game when I saw my visibly angry son. I asked my son of a Flame & Longhorn why he was upset. His reply: "If I would have known we were going to lose to the Aggies I wouldn't have come. I hate this place." I love my boy.

Trying to see some positives in this beatdown, I would say that the fact that players other than our "stars" were able to have some production against a top 10 opponent is good. Kudos to Tomu, Dymond, LaKendra and Jasmine. We have a pretty good idea what Devon, Avery and Jelena are going to give us in conference play if they are healthy. If "second tier" players can also produce, things look good.

A&M is really good. Maybe an even tougher matchup for us than Baylor will be be. We'll know soon.

On the other hand, the turnover situation is ridiculous. It's not just the numbers either. On some of those passes there seemed to be a total lack of awareness as to where the defender was.

I agree, Olldflame. Perhaps I am being presumptuous but having some of our players playing in front of family & friends for the first time might have been a slight distraction. But that is to be expected under the circumstances. Of course the colution to that problem is for us to schedule games int eh Lone star State every season so our squad full of Texans will feel more at home.

Well DUH. Who wouldn't be nervous playing in front of the GREAT SLY FOX?!?!?
As for turnovers, the best way to cut down on them is when the team gets some chemistry. Of course, ask any coach and chemistry is the most valuable and most difficult trait for a team to grow into!

Thanks, CJ. But let the record show that I had never shot hoops as a still photographer before last night and my focus was nowhere near up to Les standards.

I guess I'm old school. The way to cut down on turnovers is to deal with it in practice. Each turnover = # of pushups or suicides (wind sprints) for the team. Peer pressure works well. It heightens one's awareness of taking care of the ball. Someone mentioned in an earlier post how some of the girls weren't aware of the defenders. Also, practice foul shots the same way!!
