The Lady Flames step back into conference play tonight as they host the Winthrop Lady Eagles inside the Vines Center. Liberty is coming off a gritty 57-51 victory over North Carolina A&T. The Lady Flames were led by redshirt freshman Devon Brown and true freshman (and LCA product) Jelena Antic as the two combined for 31 points.

THe Lady Eagles picked up the win in their Big South opener over the Presbyterian Lady Blue Hose. Experience was the order of the day as seniors Jessica Fansler and Shanice Cole combined for 24 points and Fansler hit a pair of threes in the 57-40 triumph.

This is the 45th meeting between the two programs with Liberty holding a 37-7 advantage including a 23-1 record under head coach Carey Green.

Liberty has not lost to the Lady Eagles at home since 1996, a stretch of 17 consecutive games. WIth a win tonight it will be Coach Green's 246th in his illustrious career. If the Lady Flames sweep this homestand they will have a chance to get him his 250th win on the road at Charleston Southern January 23. Game time is 7 PM and can be seen on the Liberty Channel with Ray Jones and Jamie Hall and also on the Flames Radio Network with Nick Pierce on the call.

After being behind a good part of the first half, we have now gone up 32-16 about 3 minutes into the second half.

It's 47 to 20 now, and Devon Brown has 21 for us. If I'm not mistaken, she outscored another opponent single handed earlier this year.

Final score:

LU 67
WU 38

Devon sat out the last 12 minutes or so and finished with 21 points. Amber Mays had 10 assists.

Does Realist care about WBB?

If you add the men's and ladies' scores from both Winthrop games, LU has a scoring advantage of 26 points!

I was at the game last night and Paul Carmany (SID contact for women's basketball) was saying that the game started to turn when COach Green had Lakendra Washington and Dymond Morgan together on the floor because they were continually hassling the ball in the halfcourt, and then Ra-Mac nickname for Rachel McLeod given by some of the players) picked off a pass and left a sweet dime for Devon on the fast break and that was it. We totally shut them down in the second half.

I doubt it...if he did he would see what a real dynasty is...but LU has only lost one time to a Carey Green coached Liberty squad AND only lost 7 games total

If you have to explain the nickname, is it really worth using it?

For those of you not at the game, the pass that BJ described was a behind-your-back bounce pass, which was maybe the best pass that I've ever seen at any level.

We were able to see TJ Bannister play for a year so I'm not so sure about that. It was a great pass though. Completely unexpected.

I've noticed that our ladies have been a bit flashier this year. Jelena and Amber have both pulled off some behind the back passes and dribbling as well. I guess if you're gunna turn it over 20 times a game, you might as well have some fun doing it. (Yes, I know we cut down on turnovers a bit against WU, but that's still our average.)

Well, I was sitting on that side of Vines, and saw the pass up close and personal. My jaw hadn't dropped that much since I heard Susan Boyle sing for the first time.
