Megan Frazee played in her first preseason game for the San Antonio Silver Stars tonight going 2-5 from the floor 2-4 from 3 Pt range for 6 points and added 4 rebounds. Fellow LU alum Katie Mattera (Feenstra) finished with 13 points and a team leading 8 rebounds. Unfortunately San Antonio lost to the defending champion Detroit Shock tonight 62-55.

I realize it is quite a stretch, but perhaps a certain prospect in the Alamo City may have noticed our LU contingent in his hometown playing hoops professionally.

I am glad Megan got a chance to see the floor. She is an all-around great player and I hope to see her improve even more as the season progresses.

Thanks Bozlady! Just my luck that it's not on now since it's Sun. And, to add to that frustration, I will be gone next week on vacation and the place we are staying up in the mountains has NO INTERNET. TORTURE!!!!

Megan enters the game midway through the 2nd quarter and scores 5 quick points on a layup and a 3. Katie has a bucket backing up Ruth Riley in the post.

And I cringed when Katie bit hard on that up-and-under by Olde in the first quarter. "You're 4 inches taller, Katie. Stay on your feet!!"

Let's be honest, folks.

Crystal Tharp was the only girl on campus that had a chance with me. Where'd she go? Med School?

Silver Stars vs. Mystics

San Antonio: 82
Washington: 84

Alana Beard (Mystics) had the game-winning shot with 1.9 seconds left. Sadly, Megan didn't get in the game. :( (They should've put her in for the last second to deliver a magical game winner- we know what she can do! Remember the BSC Championship Game in 2008? I almost had a heart attack!!)

Megan got a double dose of good stuff yesterday...not ONLY did she get a career high 11 points in a 79-78 win over Washington (with her family in attendance), but this bit of good news from the conference as posted on the official site:
On a day which saw her score a career-high 11 points, helping the San Antonio Silver Stars claim a 79-78 road victory over the Washington Mystics, Megan Frazee was honored for her stellar work in the classroom. The former Liberty hardwood standout was voted the 2008-09 Big South Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the conference sports information directors, from a pool of each sport’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Awesome! (Don't you just love Megan? :D )

And:

Liberty redshirt sophomore distance standout Sam Chelanga and Lady Flames senior women’s basketball player Megan Frazee have been named the Big South Conference Male and Female Student-Athletes of the Year for the 2008-09 season by the league’s athletic directors, senior woman administrators and sports information directors.

Remember the LU foul that wasn't called, and the Radford player who was subsequently called for traveling to give Megan the chance for that shot? (Relax! I was rooting for LU; just offering some perspective.)

More toward the point of thread, I've seen no mention of the fact that Katie Mattera was recently released by the Silver Stars.

I actually didn't remember that. Thanks for the perspective. Oh and here is what was said of Katie:

http://www.wnba.com/silverstars/feature ... l?rss=true
Mattera appeared in 13 games for the Silver Stars this season, averaging 2.2 points and 1.7 rebounds per game. Her best game came in the season opener at Phoenix where she picked up eight points and four rebounds in eight minutes off the bench.

Regarding the LU/Radford game where Megan Frazee won on the hookshot. There was no foul to be called on LU, because Rachel Hammond never touched the Radford girl...the Radford girl slid on the floor with the ball. I have the game on tape and you can watch it in slow motion. It was travelling on Radford and not an LU foul. The ref made the correct call, and should get props for paying close attention. Just my perspective.

(Unlike the previous year...where there was a terrible technical called against LU that cost us the title)...
