High Point has to play NCST in the first round of the Preseason WNIT on NOV 9 in Raleigh. LU was able to stay with NCST for about the whole time but the youth took over after a while and lost by 14 points. The last time HP played an ACC school in a mediocre Virginia Tech team they lost 91-52. Any thoughts on the match up on HP vs NCST.........

I am not sure what HPU lost but they have gotten better each year the past couple of years. However when Megan Frazee gets back healthy, Liberty is way, way better than everyone else in the Big South. HPU should be able to hang for a while though but not have the showing we had last season.

im not a VT honk, but i would not say they are mediocre. they have been a consistent NCAA tournament team. NCSU will mop up HPU.

they (VT) may have been a ncaa contender every year. The last couple of years I question their invitation to the NCAA tournament. When it matters the most, VT is not good in the ACC in women's basketball. They almost lost to Radford last season at Radford. They don't win games that matter the most in the ACC. They schedule a somewhat soft Non conference schedule but for the last few years, they have been either a .500 team or a sub .500 team in the ACC.

I will agree with smooth on one thing though; NCST will win big over HP.

Critic you have to give Tech some credit for having the courage to play on the road in-state though. Very few schools from the power conferences will do that in Men's or women's hoops because it is a no win. If you almost get beat or dont' win by 30 people will think you stink but the truth is life on the road in Divison 1 sports can be tough and especially tough when the other team is playing in their SuperBowl and you are just looking at it as another game.

Raven Truslow is also gone from HPU (kicked off the team before the tourney)...O'Dell returns as an assistant coach. As for Tech women's hoops, I question them getting in the NCAA the year we went to the Sweet 16, but then again I also question a lotta things about the selection committee. Tech is normally in the top 25 or receiving votes. Granted, they're no Duke or UNC, but they are still a good program and one that we have yet to beat.
As for HPU-they will not be able to hang with NCST for long. I also see them finishing third or fourth in the league this upcoming season, behind Winthrop and possibly UNCA.

It'll be interesting to see what progress Bud Childers can make with this year's Winthrop team. Most of the key players from last year return, though point guard will be a question-mark (at least early on) since Milevoj was such a huge part of WU's success last year. Anyway, I noticed that the roster for next year has been posted on Winthrop's website and the team that Childers will be coaching will not have a single junior or senior on it...

Then again Winthrop has not faced the wrath of Megan Frazee yet.

Critic has an excellent point, but I must give Childers credit...he turned a team that lost to us by more than 50 points into a team that has the potential to pull off an upset in just one season. Granted, multiple things happened (us losing 5 seniors, his new recruits, our best player getting injured) to make the margin of victory much smaller, but still you must give credit where it is due. It will be interesting to see how a seasoned Lady Eagles team does this year in the Big South.

It's funny that you use the word 'seasoned' to describe a team that will be nothing but freshmen and sophomores. And I'm not saying Winthrop will be in position this year to knock off Liberty, especially if Megan is healthy, but it finally looks like Winthrop has a women's coach that has things going in the right direction.

Winthrop at least has a good future ahead of them with all of them freshmen and sophmores. Can't wait to see NCST beat HP.

LU sure could use some good competition within the conference for a change. Maybe Winthrop and High Point are the competition going forward but maybe Radford could be in the mix.
