What kind of team will we have next year?

We are losing seven seniors. Who is returning and what will their roles be?

We will be a very young team next year (1 senior- Amber Mays) with Kylee and Danika coming back and Brittany Campbell returning from her knee injury and Devon Brown seeing her first action.

I think Avery has the potential to do monster things next year. She has been a very big contributor reboundingwise (she actually set a BSC Tournament record with her 17 rebounds yesterday I heard on the radio). Rachel McLeod will split time running the point with Amber Mays and Kittery Maine I think will continue as a reserve.

We have 4 freshmen coming in and I would not be surprised if all of them came in and contributed right out the gate like Danika and Kylee did this year.

It will be UGLY IMHO, 3rd-4th in conference.

Yeh but I at this point CG has earned my respect and trust so I think he will figure something out...but we'll be depleted for sure but we have some good pieces to build around

First off, this year's team isn't done yet.

But I'll bet we find a way to win the league next year. Non-conference could get ugly.

I think we had this same conversation after the Sweet 16 run. Remind me what happened the last 4 years, I can't remember...

well we also had one of the top players ever these last 4 years...I dont hear of any recruits that are that highly touted...but like I said before I trust CG. As long as everyone's eligible we'll be ok

That same argument was made after Katie & co. left. I'll let it play it, and expect to be cutting down the nets again next March.

Actually, Devon Brown was very highly touted. Whether her HS scoring and rebounding ability will translate to the D1 level remains to be seen. We will still have more size than anyone in the BS, and probably the best post player in the conference in Whorley. if healthy, Brittany Campbell will be a more than adequate replacement for Hammond.

I wouldn't read too much into the fact that we had a bit of a scare in the final. We dominated the conference all year, and came within a hair of running the table. To paraphrase Mark Twain "reports of the demise of Lady Flames basketball dominance are premature".

Your "drop" down from this season to next won't be near as bad as the drop that VMI will experience on the men's side.

I see the Big South extremely competitive in womens play next year. The champion sure as heck isn't going to win with a five-game cushion. In fact, that conference record of 10-6 that HPU finished with this year could very well win the conference next year.

With all due respect to the Beacon in Spartanburg, I see "tie-breakers aplenty" on the women's side next year. You can take G-W, Liberty, HPU, Winthrop and bunch them together. I think CSU could be a darkhorse next year too with all their young talent.

That was incorrect. The single-game record was 22 rebounds. Unless they meant rebounds for the entire tournament.

They may have...I heard 17 rebounds and tournament record and must have thought they meant the single game record...thanks for the correction.

As far as newcomers who could contribute right away I think that LeKendra Washington and Devon Brown would be the ones to come in right away and fill in the void for those who are graduating. Not sure if we have a Katie Feenstra or Megan Frazee in the making but those 2 look good on paper. The other 3 recruits for this year look sort of just average mid-major. We should be stronger at the guard position and maybe Coach Green could run a more "up tempo" style instead of slowing it down and posting up. If Molly could have a change of heart and stay another year she could easily replace Moriah at the power forward position. If Sunday's game is any indication we could see more close games vs Big South teams so we have to come to play every game and not expect to blow teams out all of the time.

And how about Cary Green? If we were to win a first round game he will get some serious offers from major (ACC, SEC) teams and with the money they will throw at him it will be hard to turn them down. If he feels that getting the Katies and the Megan's come ounce every so often he may feel like it is his time figuring he can't do much better within the Big South conference end of things and maybe getting into a major conference would increase his chance of getting better recruits year in and year out. His stock is high that is for sure and could leave for greener pastures. Of course I was saying that 3 years ago and look what happened.

Cary Green has been talked to by high-major programs before and chose to stay at LU, so I'm not worried about him going anywhere. We return Amber Mays, who can definitely score, as can Avery Warley. DeAnna Fuqua and Devon Brown will be playing for the first time as well.

As for the newcomers, didn't we sign someone 6'7"? I know that she's no Feenstra or Megan Frazee, but with that height you ought to be able to contribute something, especially in a league thats as small as the Big South.

I bet the 6'7" girl will redshirt next year.

was Deana on scholarship? I don't ever recall reading about her commiting or signing. She just showed up on the roster.

i believe that deanna fuqua was a walk on. From what i hear the reason she quit was because of the lack of playing time she would get when she got healthy. She tried to get back on the team but the coaches denied her a second chance.

My projected Starting 5

It should be a different look next year to say the least. Here is my guess for the First 5:

Brown (word is she has developed alot this past year and if healthy, she will be fabulous)
Washington (may walk right in and start)
Warley (we know her talents)
Mays (senior leader)
Beecher (may be able to crack the 1st 5)
