Lang's LU Ladies' Preview

Sly has to be excited: both the men's and ladies' teams will have a PG from Houston!
The backcourt will feature two new starters. Rachel Hammond averaged 16.6 minutes and 5.3 points per game off the bench last season and will step into Watkins’ old spot. At point guard, sophomore Rachel McLeod and junior-college transfer Amber Mays will split time...

Molly Frazee played most of the minutes at center down the stretch last season, but with her out, freshmen Avery Warley and Kylee Beecher have been thrust into impact roles immediately. Warley, a 6-3 center from Washington, D.C., redshirted last season and is an athletic presence down low who can also score at times off the dribble, Megan Frazee said.

Beecher, who played at Hidden Valley in Roanoke, is 6-4 and a scoring threat. She scored 21 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in last season’s Group AA state title game, as Hidden Valley beat Waynesboro.

Bothe Jesse and Rachel are from the same homeschool association that my son plays in. And I have a strong feeling that Rachel had a great deal of influence in Jesse's arrival.

I hesitate to get overly excited, but this sets up to be a big year for the ladies.

Its too bad about Alex though...she walked on 4 years ago and now she hits her senior year and tears her ACL...

The major question right now is, do Molly, Moriah, Rebecca and Alex redshirt?

Moriah definitely won't. She's expected to start against VCU.

Coming back from an ACL is typically a 6-9 month process, depending on the athlete and the sport. Moriah should be just fine.

Molly on the other hand, suffered her injury in August. She could theoretically rehab and play a bit at the end of this season, but it's not likely she would be at full strength.

If she is on track to graduate and does not want to redshirt...then it is entirely possible she could be back.

Her family is here. And she's probably not going to be playing ball professionally. So I think its logical for here to redshirt and go to grad school next year and play.

I think I read somewhere a while back something about not wanting to play apart from her sisters or something like that. I could see her redshirting but really the only people who would know for sure what she wants to do are Molly herself and her family and probably close friends

It's good to know if I ever need someone to tell me what color the sky is I can come to you.

I'm in a great mood. I had Bojangles this morning. I'm just getting out the frustrations of having to listen to a game on the radio right now instead of tonight

Glad to know that...but Im serious. We can speculate about her redshirting all we want but I said that to say that none of us (well almost) would know for sure what she plans to do.

I told Bryson that I've heard reports that the Lynchburg area will soon support 2 Bojangles:

1. South of Lynchburg on Route 29
2. On Timberlake Road near TGIF

there is definitely one about to open on 29 next to foster fuels. Convenient for me because I live right up the road! I hadn't heard anything about the one on Timberlake, but that's a good idea.

There is one being built beside Fridays on Timberlake. I live close.
