No it's not. We're in the same conference.
And we're in terrible conference. Yet we are still a cut above the rest of the conference in wball.

The BS is 26th out of 33 (if you even count the Great West as a real conference)

I know the Big South sucks, but that's still the conference we go out recruiting with. You are who you are. Regardless of what conference we're in, 14 out of 16 is remarkable. I'll take it any day of the week, any sport, any level.

Fair enough.

I'm not just trying to view everything as half glass nothing. I just see a potential for greatness that I feel is being spoiled.

What? We truly are the class of the conference. We might even be the class of a couple other conferences. But it doesn't follow that because we are good the conference is good. Look at ODU back in the 80's and 90's. They were dominate on the national scene but played in an awful conference. Now ODU has gone down and the rest of the conference has gotten much better. They no longer win let alone walk through their conference. I just hope we can become relevant on the national scene before the same happens to us. And I'm sure I'm not alone in that hope.

I agree with you. What I'm saying is, it's not easy to dominate a conference, any conference, the way we have.

Purple Haize wrote:We will agree to disagree on that. I gave you ODU and could go down a list. In WBB it's not as rare as you would think.
If it was so easy, why isn't it being done in every low major conference? Why isn't Richmond dominating the A-10? Why isn't Butler dominating the Horizon?

And if there's half a dozen teams dominating a conference, then great, we're in select company (6 out of 300+). I'd love for us to take that next step, but also realize where we are is pretty good too.

It's better than 0-0

Exactly. It's also better than 2-1, which is what were in 05, when we went to the sweet 16. Each of those other 14 losses represent a BSC championship.

I can understand Bock's position here, too. It just would be a lot more of a reasonable one had LU been losing 8-9 or 7-10 matchups on a yearly basis on a neutral floor. When you're stuck at 13 or below, your chance at advancing is so small that it's unrealistic to just say, "Green is 2-15 in the NCAA tournament, that's mediocre." His teams have not been favored in any of those 17 games.

The more reasonable argument is why isn't LU at the level of someone like Green Bay or Marist, both of whom dominate weaker leagues yet are on the fringes of the top 25 most seasons? (Or in the case of this season for Green Bay, the fringe of the top 10). Green Bay scheduled up this year, beat a ranked Georgia Tech, went to Wisconsin and won and got Marquette to come to Green Bay.

Of course, LU tried that in '08, beat Xavier on the road, played a strong schedule, went 28-3 and somehow got stuck with a No. 12 seed playing a true road game despite a top-20 RPI.

Good point. Even with our best team ever, a future first round WNBA draft choice and 2 tournament wins under our belt, we were just no match for LSU. There is a huge dropoff in WBB after the top 8-10 teams. Chances for a tournament upset go way up starting with a 13/14 seed.

I'll just say this much. If the Sun Belt rumors are true, we're in for a bit of a shock regarding our conference dominance.

The Sun Belt is definately a step up from the BSC, and I wouldn't expect us to win it 14 times in 16 years, but it's not the SEC or Big East either. Middle Tenessee State went 16-0 during the conference season but then lost by one to Ark-Little Rock in the conference tourney final and got a 10 seed as an at-large in the NCAAs. In the past we have beaten a Western Kentucky team that won the Big Sun. We'll be fine.

Olldflame's got a point jbock...we may not win at the clip we do in the Big South, but I dont think we are gonna be racking up losing records in the Sun Belt either

Did I say easy? I said its not that rare. Lang gave 2 more examples. I could also give you the obvious UCONN and Tennessee examples. The point I think JB is making, and Lang eluded to, is where do we go from here? We have what appears to be shaping up as a classic Coach Green style team the next couple of years. Strong frontline, dominate the boards and control tempo. We will see where that gets us.

That's your only expectation of the WBB program? You don't see them becoming like one of the teams Lang or I mentioned?
