The most successful program on Liberty Mountain deserves its own forum. We give Coach Green and the Lady Flames their props while breaking down their run to the Big Dance once again.

To go back to the marketing thing one time, I will say this:

(WARNING: Student Flames Club rant comig)

The marketing department should not be the only ones promoting these games. The Student Flames Club should be hanging banners around campus that say "Doubleheader Sat 6pm." They need to be promoting this to their fellow students. However, the only thing they have done was send an e-mail that 95% of the membership didn't real. The SFC should be marketing both men's and women's games. It's their job to show up and support these teams. The last 2-3 men's games the only thing the SFC has done is signups for the half court shot thing. None of the leaders have been "helping create a home-court advantage" which is what they claim to be there for.

ATrain wrote:Critic does have a valid point...add to it the fact that it was snowing and there's not much to do in Lynchburg anyway, and you're going to get a decent crowd. Our AD needs to do a better job of marketing the women's team to the student body.

Of course, they managed to market VT fairly well...they just need to do a better job of marketing them throughout the season instead of the big games. They need to focus on the fact that our women's bball program has had the most success and deserves our support. Granted, there are only so many fans of women's bball, but there could be several hundred more people at the games than those who currently go.
Atrain and Critic you guys just don't get it!!!! when we have 1,500 people on a Monday night for a girls game what else do you want the AD to do... Atrain since you think that our AD needs to do a better job with Marketing the women's team what is it that you propose? Kevin Keys is in charge of marketing I am sure that since you feel like you have better ideas that he would love to hear them. I am not trying to be a jerk here but you guys have just don't have a clue about how much money are athletic department is spending. As far as marketing everything basically been doubled, from season tickets to sales to giving in the Flames Club. So I really don't want to hear about what better job we need to do until you guys have some solutions. I like both of you guys but please let's be realistic.

GMTM since you think you are so close with the Athletic Dept. get me some numbers in terms of how much the Athleti Department is spending on marketing. enlighten me oh wise one

Marketing is a funny thing. You can make sure everybody knows that there is a game, but it doesn't make people want to come. You can entice them by spending money on things besides the game (halftime shows, prizes, etc.) but it doesn't make them want to watch the game anymore than they did before and wont keep them coming back. They just show up for whatever else you're offereing. You can offer a winning product and we really can't win too much more than we already do. You're fighting culture, and our culture says that women's sports are not entertaining. Now sure there are some who like it and some who prefer it, but it's a pretty low percentage. Now take that same percentage and apply it to the population who would be willing and are able to support LU athletics and I doubt you'd come up with a number much higher than our current attenance.

I don't think he was talking about High Point... I think he was speaking of Winthrop last week.

Also, I don't think it would be appropriate for anyone to mention specific amounts when it comes to a departments budget... if the term "doubled" was used, that is probably as detailed the description is going to get.

To that I'll just say that there was no one there during Christmas break so it counters each other.

It still won't be good enough.

Like FSN 32 said, I am not going to disclose numbers, and I am pretty close to the Athletic department, they allows us to do what we do... So yes that makes me pretty close to them, but like I said before all you got to do is talk to Kevin Keys he would love to hear your ideas (I can't stress that enough) So tomorrow night when you see over 1,500 people at the women's game don't come on here and say O it's because VMI was playing afterwards!!! End of rant just bring yours ideas if they are not doing a good enough job in your opinion... But I bet you $10 you won't.... because your the Sportscritic and you hide behind all of your statements and never bring real solutions to the table...

The funny thing is he uses CFAW as an excuse.

That's marketing.

CFAW is put on certain weekends because of games. They apparently marketed that game pretty good.

We have had 3 women's games so far while school was in sessionp and our average attendance is 2185.

Complain about that.

And what purpose would it serve to keep them to yourself?

This isn't a reality show where someone will steal your idea and take it to Donald before you can... if you have input , why not tell someone. If you are going to complain then say something to back up your complaints. It's like the Dems in Congress, they bash the President but don't give one good idea on how to do things better.

I think GMTM is just frustrated b/c some people complain without giving any specific recommendations on how to make things better.

and yet last season we couldn't get hardly any students to those home games excluding holidays. it looks like the attendance is better but again i will say i want to see some consistency throughout the rest of the season in terms of attendance.

That was LAST season. Apparently they're marketing something right THIS season if we're averaging over 2000 when school is in session.

I agree with FSN, if you have ideas, there's no use keeping to yourself. By saying, "Oh I have ideas" and then not saying anything, it gives the impression that either a) your ideas suck or b) you really don't have any.

Man up and give a solution instead of just whining.

Then tell us your "great ideas" if you know that they're great. You do absolutely no good by whining and claiming to have these great ideas and not doing anything about them.

i feel like i just entered a middle school arguement...I don't think anybody is trying to be a jerk to you critic, but the cool thing about this board in my opinion , is hearing different ideas to help improve things...we all have the same thought in mind, making Liberty athletics the best that it can be...GMTM and FSN both have relationships with the athletic department so of course they are going to jump to their aid when you say they aren't doing the job that needs to be done...there is room for improvement, but look around...things are changing...you can't take huge steps...you must take small steps in order for goals to happen

that long paragraph written to say this...I want to hear your ideas man...lets hear them!!
