The most successful program on Liberty Mountain deserves its own forum. We give Coach Green and the Lady Flames their props while breaking down their run to the Big Dance once again.

I did not believe the score when I saw it. Hard to believe Purdue beat us by 30+ points.

I think we're gonna feel the loss of Brown next season. She is probably the 3rd best player ever to play for Flames. 2,000 points is a lot to replace.

I like Coach Green. Only complaint I have is I think he plays too much of a half court game, trying to get ball in the paint too much, which leads to turnovers at times.

We need to recruit players who can "run the floor", and a couple girls who can create their shot somewhere other than the paint.

For the last several years we have been able to use an almost sure NCAA bid as a tool in getting players to come to LU who may have other opportunities, but like the faith aspect of the school and the winning tradition of our WBB program. Moving to a conference we won´t be able to dominate so thoroughly will necessitate a different approach at the very least.
Have you seen our non conference schedule? It's pretty strong. I do agree about the BSC not doing us any favors to prepare for the Tournament.

I'm not personally in favor of a coaching change with Coach Green. He is an exceptional human being and man of substance. He is also a good and qualified coach. I wouldn't pursue those desires or course of actions unless we had solid ground under our feet as a program with a coach already in mind and or waiting in the hanger ready to fly us to definative greatness.

Though it would be nice to see some newer fresh life and vision blown back into the sails of the Women's Program. That is not to say that the dream is not still alive, but the early enthusiasm / novelty of the program amongst the fanbase is gone.

I'd personally like to see Liberty recruit, recruit, recruit - hard for two or three dynamic franchise or charismatic players.

I recall back to when I stepped onto campus in the Fall of 1997 when Kisseleva & the Wilkerson twins were great but fun to watch. They had some talent, but also had a unique style to watch. We've attracted some great players since that era. But this was a unique fresh honeymoon stage and the Lady Flames had an overwhelming grasp on the hearts of the fanbase. Case in point, even the male population on campus at Liberty was very much into Women's basketball. Sounds strange, but believe it or not, the Lady Flames teams in the late 90's and early 2000's even had a good following that would "road trip" to many away games as students.

The NCAA Tournament does help with recruitment and just overall exposure to people about Liberty as a school on the national stage.

Our current overall non-conference schedule is good and challenging; but IMHO, our affinity within the overall Big South Conference is absolutely killing us.

It's just not preparing us for the steeper and tougher competition we will face in March.

I think getting out of BSC would help recruiting. There are girls playing D1 basketball all over the nation that have the character to meet LU requirements for admission. I think probably every school in nation has some players who would fit the Liberty Way. The BSC limits us in attracting top notch players.

How? We offer a chance to play the best competition in America with our OOC schedule and pretty much a guarantee of making the Tournament every year. Going to another conference won't help that.

Do we only recruit from Christian High Schools ? It doesn't matter what high school the player attends, if she meets requirements. There are girls at christian academys who don't meet LU standards, and players at public schools who meet LU standards.

But will it be any better in another conference? Nope.

We've played
UVA
Wake Forest
Va Tech
Duke
We've also played North Carolina and NC State

Since Cary Green took over besides the ACC teams mentioned above we have played these teams in OOC (not NCAA tournament):

Baylor, UCLA, Delaware, Alabama, Boston College, West Virginia, Kentucky, Notre Dame, Iowa State, Richmond, Auburn, Xavier, Oklahoma, SMU,Texas A&M, JMU, Kansas State, Pittsburgh, UNLV, Southern Mississipi, Florida . . I'll stop here. We play a pretty challenging OOC schedule except for the D2 teams.

Every school schedules easy wins. Why should we be any different? These types of games help with a teams confidence after some tough games against A and M types.

I am not 100% sure that I buy into the confidence factor by playing and beating D2 schools. Granted it helps somewhat, but playing weak opponents early in season may not translate into wins come tournament time.

Years ago I fully believed in playing cupcakes early. I was coaching a team and we went 5-0 against weal teams to open season. Once we started conference play we hit a losing skid. Since that time I have changed my thinking.

It's why you need a balance. Play Baylor. Play Kentucky Wesleyan. It's not good to load up on either

Our preseason schedule is to prepare us for winning the conference and not to win the NCAA tournament. You don't get into the tournament until you win the conference. Yes it would be nice to win a game or 2 in the tournament but let's be realistic. There will always be at least 50 teams more talented than us. The D2 games are home games and are around the time of finals, etc. It allows the team to fine tune their game and get the subs a lot of game experience without the travel and the stress given the demands of school. I would like to see lower level D! games but I imagine it's hard to have teams come to Lynchburg to play us at that time of year.

I disagree. After 15 odd years we should have an expectation of winning a couple a games in the NCAA Tournament. Not a Sweet 16 run every year, although it would be nice, but win a first round game now and then.

I'm not sure what you disagree with. Is it winning the NCAA tournament, is it having 50 teams more talented than us, or is it scheduling D2 teams around the holidays/finals week. I'm not saying there isn't an expectation to win a game or 2 in the NCAA tournament, never said that. That has always been the expectation. Realistically with the level of talent this team has and has had over the 15 years, like most lower level conferences who garner 14-16 seed in the tournament, we have a less likelihood of winning a first round game. I must say unless we have great production out of the freshmen next year we will be challenged to repeat as conference champions. Nonetheless, I believe that Coach Green can get what he has in the talent he is collected and get them ready fro BSC play with a challenging OOC schedule.

What frustrates me are several here who consider this program mediocre. That,s just plain silly. There are 300 other teams that wish they had our success. There are teams in higher level conferences that haven't been in NCAA tournament in over 20 years.
