Thanks for letting me know. I am a little disappointed but very relieved right now. I was sure that we would blow them out but any way I can calm down. If we would have lost I do not think that we would have gotten an at-large birth in the tourney but I guess I don't have to sweat it out when the brackets come out.

Avery Warley had a monster game with 17 rebounds! Congrats to the girls and Coach Green.
(And I was glad to see the coaches' handshake after the game with RR).

Megan's play was definately off today. It seems she spent a lot of time on the bench with foul trouble and even when she was in her shooting was off but she did receive a lot of double teams. Moriah played well.

solid win, You can always count on the girls team to get the job done. This is probably a dumb question but I have never kept up with the ladies as much as the guys teams so I was a bit confused by the announcer. He kept saying it was Reeves that essentially built the foundation for Liberty's program, I thought Green had pretty much been here through all the succesful years. I thought that was an unfair characertization because keeping a program at the top is always harder than getting to the top for a year or two. Did Reeves really have that much impact

Rick Reeves built the program by recruiting the Wilkersons and Elena K and built the team around them. When Reeves left Carey Green took over and recruiting improved overall and that took us to greater heights.

The program was absolutely pitiful when Reeves started. He built the program into annual contenders and left after taking the Flames to the big dance three straight years. Green has done very well picking up where Reeves left off, probably aided in part, to a better financial situation at the school during his tenure.

It may sound like I am dumping on RR, but in reality I just want to be sure people who were not around understand the facts. Rick did not recruit Elena. She was "discovered" by Julius Nwosu while he was playing pro ball in Moscow. He recommended her and sent a video to RR which just showed her working out alone; handling the ball and shooting. He offered her a schollie thinking she was a 5'9" guard. Needless to say he was pleasently surprised when she arrived and he discovered she was 6'1" with guard skills. He did recruit the twins, but they had lots of options, and my understanding is that they were more Jerry Falwell recruits than anything. Their whole family loved Doc and they chose LU mainly because of him.

RR had been at LU for several years before the "Big 3" arrived, and had a losing record. He then had 3 championship years with them and left to take a more lucrative position at Southern Miss. That didn't work out, but it looks like he is making progress with the program at G-W.

I had to work today, but listened to our pitiful crew do play by play. Give you an idea, when we inbounded with 14 seconds left or so, they said we were inbounding, then didn't say a word until the buzzer sounded....I about threw the radio into the wall. :frustrated :banghead Got to watch my DVR recording when I got home, what a game.

Our ladies played exactly how I thought we would have to in order to keep it close, sloppy and scrappy. That rim out at the end was heartbreaking.

I too, was glad to see the cordial exchange between Reeves and your coaches at the end. From what I've heard of Reeves at G-W, he is truly an enigma. One minute, he does something totally dumb to someone, then the next thing you hear, he does something really positive for the students, staff, etc. Mixed bag for sure. Considering how the women's hoops program has never done anything in their history, no matter what the level, the future is bright.

Good luck to y'all in the Dance. Hopefully you can get at least a #14 and play a team you can matchup well against. Hope also you play east of the Mississippi somewhere, so your fans can travel and support your team. Go represent our conference well! :nod :clapping

I feel you i was driving back to Lynchburg from atlanta listening to the GW play by play when i was in SC and NC and it was just awful. I applaud the GW lady's efforts and it was a good game until you guys ran out of gas but the announcing was making me want to scream haha. Go win ladies who we gonna play in the tourney?

That isnt entirely true but it really doesnt matter

Glad to beat them like we did...a slow painful defeat can be just as satisfying as a 40 point win

We will definitely have our work cut out for us in years to come. All those top BSC teams have some amazing players especially G-Webb and High Point.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but isn't that what happens in most scenarios? Seems like outside the elite programs, college coaches rely heavily on high school coachs, alumnus, recruiting agencies to sends film to the college coach to evaluate and then decide whether to make an offer. Athletes make their decisions based upon geographic location, religious affiliation, majors offered ete, etc.

You are forgiven. . It's a little different with international players of course, but most D1 basketball players have been recruited face to face and have made an official NCAA sanctioned campus visit beforee they sign a letter. The thing that made Elena's situation especially unusual is that the only video we had was of her working out alone, there was no basis for comparison, and RR has been quoted as saying he thought she was about 5'9 until she arrived and was thinking she would be a solid guard. I guess Julius wasn't much help in determining her height since anyone under 6'5 probably looks short to him.

A comparable scenario on the men's side would be Craig Bradshaw at Winthrop. They had no idea how good he was til after he got there.
