Coach Green "some very questionable calls and stupid mistakes by our players came back to haunt us" (paraphrased)

I seriously thought this year we were going to take a small step forward. By that I mean, I thought we would go 14-0 in league, win the title, as normal, and have a couple good non-conference wins. After the UVA game, I felt even more confident in that. Now, I just hope we win the Big South. Very dissapointing season to this point. I have been very upbeat until now. I can rationalize us losing to JMU, VaTech, and GW, but not UT-Arlington.

as i have said all year, other than megan, we have no one that will step up and make plays. if we continue like this, we may not win the big south. that is a real possibility. you cannot win with one player. im not panicking, but it is what is is.

I guess we can kiss our high tourney seeding goodbye. Provided that we even make it at all. :

I will admit, this loss stings. I never got much into the discussion of tournament seedings or what not so Im not commenting there. I will say that I practiced with the girls one time and to my knowledge they haven't called the practice guys back since. You think that may have something with it?

I was really disappointed by that loss but then I get on here and the negativity makes me feel better, because I then think it CAN'T be as bad as that, and it usually isn't.

There is no question we should have won that game but UTA is good... they won the Southland last year and have played some tough teams this year close. They didn't get embarrassed by Texas Tech or Mich St either. They could very easily be 7-3 just like we could very easily be 9-1. UTA's Strengh of Schedule is right at 50th in the country and they have lost a load of 2 and 4 point games.

Look at this... as far as we are concerned... our other 3 losses...
GW... RPI #2
JMU... RPI #23
Va Tech...RPI #94

Having said that, this loss was a tough one to swallow the way it went down. We took care of the ball pretty well despite some extreme pressure... until the final 3 minutes... then 4 turnovers. Missed FT's also hurt... if we shoot our average we win the game. We didn't play well, BUT... even with the negatives from this loss, to start questioning whether we can win the Big South is crazy. This is the same team as last year... LITERALLY the same team. We didn't have Megan in BS play and still only lost one game. The conference isn't as good as a year ago according to RPI and win-loss records, so I am not feeling those that think we might have trouble.

I would step out on a limb and say that there isn't a team in the BS that is as good as UT Arlington. If they played every team in our Conf. I think they would go undefeated and win most games by 10. High Point might be able to beat them but UTA would be the favorite. I also think that if we played them 10 times we would probably win 7.

But we didn't win this one and that stinks... but I wouldn't go writing an obituary to the season. A win against Pitt and all is forgotten. Also, I'm glad this board didn't exist back in 2000-2001 when we had a 7 game losing streak in December but went on to only lose 2 in conf. and win the title fairly easily... by the 7th loss we would have had Coach Green fired and shut down the program.

And to help ease fears, I'm not extremely positive but I think when Feenstra and Company were sophomores, didn't we lose to the likes of American U.? FSN, Critic, or GMTM can you confirm that?

FSN32 we are not going to win tomorrow!!!!!!!!! It will not happen. This is very embarrasing. This is the 3rd or 4th straight time that we have had the lead and let it slip. Megan is the only one getting it done. It is going to be a long year if someone else like the seniors and the upper class don't step up to the plate like right now. I am very infuriated on how we have lost these last few games :x We don't let leads slip like this but when nobody steps up to the plate then things like this happen.

if we win the Big South then we will be a 15 or 16 seed and lose to the likes of LSU, Tennesee, UNC or UCONN or any other team who may be a 1 or 2 seed in the first round. That is if we win it. which may not be likely.

Let's also remember that the class with Katie & Co. didn't take any big steps until their senior year. I can't remember us winning any big OOC games while they were here until that year. They beat K State during the regular season and then Depaul and Penn State. This team is young and haven't really learned how to win yet. And let's be honest, that was probably the best assembled TEAM we will see at Liberty. Katie had Rima, Dinah and Crystal......Megan doesn't.

Way to stay positive.

Also, unless we lose a bunch of our conference games, we won't be a 16... not a chance... we would have to tank it to get a 15. When we wake up in the morning our RPI will still be in the Top 100 and with games against Pitt(#6), Marist(#100) and possibly Maryland(#4), our SOS will be strong enough that if we win the conference we will have an RPI in the 60's or so... and that usually means a 14 seed. (EDIT-Our current SOS is 37th, and will get better tomorrow.)

It isn't the season we had envisioned so far, but it isn't exactly time to bail on the team either. We won the conference without Megan last year and with her we should expect nothing short of domination. We have had trouble closing games... that's a problem, they devoted a good part of practice to that and I'm sure they will continue until the issue is fixed.

We are also slowly getting healthy too. Allyson looked good in the minutes she played... Hammond is getting better... Feagan is still not 100% and KP will not be back till January. Don't underestimate the difference not having those players at full strength means to this team.

Oh and we do have a couple other scoring threats... Molly and Moriah (8-9 ppg each)... unless they don't count b/c they look like Megan ;-) When you only give up 52 points a contest and have a 20 point scorer, if you have two girls around 10 a game you are well on your way to a win. We just have to get the 5 point scorers to get 7 and the 3 ppg girls to get 5. We don't have to find someone to dump in 15 a game... in Coach Green's system there can be different people get the benefit of a good shooting night and produce.

Today a conference player of the year (Wallace) took over a game and created some steals and hit some buckets late and we didn't counter on our offensive end. That stinks but it happens and you have to learn from it. I know I sound like I am going a little too far in defending a team that lost one they shouldn't have today but Holy Cow... someone had to... the negativity on here is depressing.

What is the truth?

That we aren't going to beat Pitt? I hope that isn't what you meant because that is a terrible attitude to have. Expecting failure and stating it as fact BEFORE it happens goes against every principle we are taught. ALL things are possible...

Let me give you an example...

Do I like our chance against Maryland... no, they are #1 in the country... would I ever say that there is no way we can possibly win that game? Heck No. For two reasons... 1. ANYTHING can happen on any given day and 2. I would never want to be so negative. I choose to live on the positive side of the street... sure, we have to be realistic about our chances, but to write us off before we even play is a disservice to the players and coaches that work so hard to perform.

Remember, this team plays to glorify the Lord... so I wouldn't be so quick to call something the truth until it actually happens.

ok bucko i will tell you the truth until we learn to hold on to the lead and not have these breakdowns that we've been having the last few games then we will not win against the better teams.

also if it weren't for these breakdowns we wouldn't be having this conversation whatsoever. and also this is a message board i will say anything i want to say. I am not attacking the personality of anybody or anybody personally. it is just the team is losing when they have these confortable leads. Something needs to be fixed on the part of the team and the way they are playing.

Bucko?

I don't recall ever typing that you couldn't say what you wanted to on this message board... if you find a place where I said that I will give you $100 ($1,000 peso :D)... you take things WAY too personally and get defensive too quick.

You are welcome to have a negative opinion and I am going to continue to look at the bright side... to me, life is more enjoyable that way.

It just fired me up that anyone who supports the team would basically say "don't even suit up for the game... we have no chance." That is unbiblical and it hit me the wrong way. If you are going call something "truth" that hasn't happened yet, it better be in Revelation.
