The word "spoiled" comes to mind. The students are so used to us winning that it no longer means much to them. I doubt we would have similar issues if the men were having as much success. But those are the facts of life.

The word Reeves just gave me my first good laugh of the day!

I remember when students said in classes they wouldnt go b/c the games are always a blowout...heck they wouldnt go to our mens games b/c those were always blowouts (in a different way) maybe we'll get thousands of fans if we just turn off the scoreboard until the last minute of the game and its like a big surprise!!!!! Hey Cracker Jack has made it this long

What do you think Proto???? I think i just struck gold!!!! I want a cut though

Good game tonight... the first half was all offense... the second big time defense. It was a fun game to watch. If we win it all this year it will be because of defense, no question about it.

Jamie Feagin played big minutes and Allyson was huge. We gave up a couple too many o. boards... but all in all a good night.

Still don't quit understand the relatively low attendence last night. What do the Ladies have to do to get the respect they deserve. As if going to the sweet 16 wasn't good enough. You would think that the fans that are boycotting the men's games would flow over to the women but right now it doesn't seem to be the case here. Their is only 3 reasons I can think of that would cause this 1) The fans are spoiled like Sly stated. They are used to winning and winning big.
2) Overall lack of interest in the women's game. I guess we do quit well in relation to other Mid-majors.
3) The Big South conference is getting old to most students. We are used to dominating and even though the conference is greatly improved from their dark past the "name recognition" is not there with most of the programs.

Yeah, attendance for women's games for all Big South schools is very low...here's the average attendance for home conference games this year:

LU - 996
CCU - 809
UNCA - 727
HPU - 689
WU - 455
RU - 319
CSU - 216
BSC - 128

Those numbers seem awfully low. Is that an improvement from the past or is it the same? The figures for the bottom 4 teams are dreadful. I thought that women's hoops was increasing in popularity. Thanks for the stats.

I think I will have to look at other conferences attendence figures such as the Southern and Colonial. Performance wise we are on par with the Southern but lower than the Colonial just based on out of conference game performance. When I get time I can take a look and see how the Big South compairs with the 2. Thanks for the input.

Winthrop Eagle Fan is just full of information today. Great job! Old Dominion's awesome numbers probably relate to their tradition, who they can bring in, and enrollement. Hard to top that unless you are from the ACC or SEC. The rest of the figures are attainable I think. It looks like their is a direct relationship with success both long and short term. I will have to do a little more digging on this subject matter.

thanks for the game summary SLY, for those who couldn't tune in. Still sounds like Coach has his ladies playing well.

And I'm actually quite impressed w/ how our attendance figures stack up, at least regionally. I originally thought we were WAY low- but seems like we do pretty well.

Fasnacht Pours In A Career High To Pace Liberty In Victory Over Bulldogs
February 7, 2006 · Lynchburg, Va.

The Lady Flames shot a season-best 48.8 percent from the field, while sophomore guard Allyson Fasnacht netted a career-high 19 points to lead Liberty to a 66-50 victory over UNC Asheville, Tuesday evening, at the Vines Center.

With the victory, the Lady Flames up their Big South Conference record to 6-1 (15-5 overall) as Liberty picks up its fourth-straight victory, while UNC Asheville drops its second-consecutive conference game and falls to 3-4 in the league play (12-8 overall).

The Bulldogs controlled the pace of play for most of the first half as UNC Asheville held the lead for the first 17 minutes of the game. A jumper by Ashton Barton gave the Bulldogs an early 11-7 lead at the 15:35 mark, while Liberty scored five out of the next six points to tie the game at 12-12 after a pair of Moriah Frazee (Fr., G, Xenia, Ohio) free throw throws just three minutes later.

A three-pointer by Brittany Hendley at the 8:12 mark pushed UNC Asheville’s lead back up to five points, 21-16, while the visitors led by four, 25-21, just three minutes later after a lay-up by Barton. Liberty started to pull things together and slow down the hot-shooting hands of the Bulldogs as the Lady Flames held UNC Asheville to just two field goals over the last five minutes of the period, while Liberty scored 12 of the last 16 points of the half to take a 33-29 lead into the break.

Both teams were on fire from the field for most of the first half as Liberty finished the period shooting 52.2 percent from the field (12-of-23), marking the team’s best opening half of the season, while the last five minutes of the period caused UNC Asheville’s shooting percentage to drop to 46.2 percent from the field (12-of-26).

However, the second half proved to be a different story for the Bulldogs as Liberty held UNC Asheville to just 25.0 percent shooting from the field (5-of-20), tying an opponent season low for field goals in a period.

Back-to-back three-pointers by Roli-Ann Nikagbatse (So., G/F, Berlin, Germany) and Fasnacht (So., G, Salem, Va.) quickly pushed Liberty’s lead to 10 points, 41-31, at the 15:50 mark. UNC Asheville tried to answer back as Hendley knocked down a trey of her own to cut the lead to single digits, 41-34, on the ensuing possession, but Liberty scored seven of the next eight points and opened up a 13-point lead, 48-35, after Jamie Feagin (Jr., F, Lockport, N.Y.) converted on an old-fashion three-point play with 11:14 left to play.

A three-pointer by Ana Baker at the 4:32 mark cut Liberty’s lead back to 10 points, 57-47, but that would be as close as the Bulldogs were to get over the remainder of the game as Liberty held UNC Asheville to a field goal and a free throw down the stretch to seal the conference win.

The Lady Flames finished the game shooting a season-best 48.8 percent from the field (21-of-43), including 6-of-9 from three-point range and 18-of-24 from the free throw line, while UNC Asheville finished the game shooting 37.0 percent from the field (17-of-46) and 11-of-22 from the charity stripe.
Fasnacht bested her previous career high of 18, which helped Liberty to a NCAA Tournament first-round victory over Penn State last year, by one as she was 5-of-7 from the field, including a perfect 3-of-3 from three-point range and 6-of-6 from the line. Nikagbatse followed with nine points, while Karolina Piotrkiewicz (Jr., F, Calais, France) led the squad with nine rebounds and added six points.

The Bulldogs were led by Barton as she scored 13 points and added two assists, while Stacy Shepard netted 11 points. Liberty held UNC Asheville’s leading scorer Kristal Hood (averaging 12.2 points per game entering the evening) to just five points, while she led the team with eight rebounds.

The Lady Flames begin a two-game conference road swing this weekend when they travel to Conway, S.C. to face Coastal Carolina on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Kimbel Arena, while High Point continues its three-game road trip by traveling to High Point, N.C. to face the Panthers on Saturday at 4 p.m.

Have any of you been to the Lynchburg fishwrap website? It seems that the link for the LU stiry takes you to the Longwod-Southern Virginia game story. Any way that could be fixed?

The ODU numbers do have a lot to do with their history but also I believe has to do with their venue.

The Ted Constant Convocation Center is a SWEEEEEEETT Facility. They host major concerts in Hampton Roads as well as Disney on Ice, etc. It's a very nice venue. I also noticed how great of an environment they create for their games... It's truly an EVENT to go to the game.

Is this facility that much nicer than the Vines Center. The Vines Center is no doubt the class of the Big South. I would think that the Vines is on par with what VCU and ODU have. Holds the same number of fans

I love LU but these facilities are not even close. I don't know about VCU but I'm speaking of ODU.

Here is a list of amenities as listed on the Ted Constant Convocation Center website...

As you can see, Vines has nothing on this place... it's a top-notched facility. Vines is great for what it is and it was fantastic for when it was built but it is not on the same level as ODU's facility. Again, I'm not knocking LU... just saying that this place brings the feeling of an EVENT. At LU you sit on (mostly) plastic seats. At ODU everyone gets a plush seat (even nicer than the red ones in Vines). The A/V is not even close... and it's more compact with Luxury Boxes... very nice facility...

LU could raise the ceiling on the Vines, put in box seats where the current top ring is (with tunnels for the lower seating) and build on an addition to the back side for offices/conference rooms/etc... replace the seating with nice plush seats... install hanging video board in the center and wrap the inside with a video board... then it'd be much closer.... but for now we should be glad to be the best in the Big South...

ODU and VCU's venues blow the Vines Center away! !st of all they are both way newer and secondly they are built for total functionality. It is not even fair to compare these venues to the Vines.

The Vines center is the biggest arena no doubt, but the class of the Big South? I'm not sure if you've been to the Winthrop Coliseum lately, but it's been completely renovated (inside and outside) and I'd put it up against the Vines Center anyday....

I agree. Vines is a 16-year-old building and its tough to make comparisons to new facilities. But we certainly have nothing to be ashamed of particularly when you think back to what we had before.

I don't know Sly... from all the buzz you old folks have generated about Shilling... I'd kinda like to be a part of that...

Besides our present attendance would still be enough to get Shilling Rockin'!!!!
