The most successful program on Liberty Mountain deserves its own forum. We give Coach Green and the Lady Flames their props while breaking down their run to the Big Dance once again.

The attendence it always something that's bothered me, although the men's game vs. High point was absolutely inexecusable how few showed up. I thought it felt like more than 1,000 showed up. Anyways, the first time I even heard about anything Liberty did athletically was in 2005 when they made the run to the Sweet 16. I've always followed the women's team beccause arguably they are the only ones who win on a consistant basis (and win the big games).

On Jelena passing up the open 3s, after she shot 0 for 3 from the 3 line I noticed that too. You can look at it two different ways, a player with no confidence, or a player who knows she's not having a great game and gives somebody else a try to score. I was thinking the latter for this game.

I was thinking . . . . if we had a a point guard of the caliber of Kendall Shephard we would be a top 25 team. She is very impressive. There are a lot of very good and quick point guards in the league. I sure wish we had one. From Allison Fasnacht to the present we seem to have point guards that while adeqaute, they don't pose an offensive threat (Amber Mays on rare occasions, maybe), are not quick and aren't particularly good shooters. We need a "waterbug" like Shephard. She makes the 3s, the midrange shot and foul shots while handling the ball like a ball on a string. And she is quick as . . . . Can you imagine if this team ever had a top of the line PG. I know we've done well without one but for us to ever get to the next level we will need such a guard. When was the last time we upset a better team or a ranked team, maybe 2005?

Well, to my knowledge we typically don't play a lot of money games, so we don't get the chance to ever beat a ranked team. Sure, we played Texas A&M and Baylor, but as we know, this wasn't the year to play them for us.

I guess I was trying to make the point that we need quicker (ball handlers) and more offensive minded guards. Unfortunately, "quick" has never been used to describe our guards since I have followed the girls team which is the last 10 years, yet Coach Green uses it to describe a lot of the opposing guards. It would give us an added advantage to go with our dominace on the boards and it might lead to less turnovers. If other BSC teams can get them . . . . .
