Agreed. Tough to do much when they were hitting everything. Doubt UK could ever repeat that second half against us ever again. But they were too much today.

Take your thoughts on the season as a whole here.

Reminds of the time Kaite Feenstra and Co. were freshmen, and they lost a close one to SC. I think with this group of Lady Flames and the incoming talent we're getting much closer to another Sweet 16 run.

The future certainly does look bright for the Lady Flames. I believe before this group of freshmen are done, we can equal or surpass the heights we reached in 05.

Taking another look at the box score, while UKs shooting in the second half was deadly, and they hit 7-11 from 3 and 51% overall for the game, we actually outscored them by 9 from the floor. They went to the line 36 times and made 26. we were 11-16. I didn't really get the feeling we were being jobbed by the refs as I was watching the game, but man, that's a huge disparity.

The other thing that absolutely killed us was how we struggled simply getting the ball in bounds against pressure. At least 2 5 second calls and more turnovers leading to quick scores directly off the inbounds than I care to think about. Looking back to 05, we faced similar pressure against Penn State. Of course, all we had to do was bring Katie back, throw it up high to her and run cuts off of it and the pressure was broken.

Coach Green told the girls he would give them three five second calls. He would've rather them get called for a held ball or a five second call than, in his words, "throw an interception for a touchdown."

Yeah, we have turned the ball over so much over the last few years that coach has categories of turnovers. The ones that lead to a dead ball being much preferable to the ones that lead to a fast break basket. We had too many of both yesterday.

I loved coach Green's spin on the officiating. "Kentucky obviously did a great job of getting to the foul line. That was where the game was won" Then he gave the numbers on the number of foul shots each team shot and made and our outrebounding them and outscoring them from the floor to show that was the difference in the game. It was IMHO a masterful job of making a point, but in such a way that you could not possibly accuse him of complaining.

There is for olldflame. He seems to be such a solid debater of sports, but he LOVES to harp on these moral victories by comparing margins. We played Winthrop closer than so-and-so, Kentucky closer than so-and-so, etc.

Sure it's a loss, but IMHO, as Kentucky continues to move forward in the tourney, the fact that we gave them all they could handle while the 5 seed from the Big 10 and the 1 seed from the Big 12 got stomped is something our ladies can gain confidence from for next year.

+1
You are lying to yourself if that doesn't build confidence for our team.

Sorry that I don't like to build confidence by losing.

Do you think Murray State would have been confident after losing to Vandy the way they did? "Oh, we played them tough guys, let's get ready for next year! Yay!"

Gimme a break guys, this is proof that we're settling for less than the best. If we wanted to prove we're on the same level as UK, then that's one thing, but don't try to say were on the same level as a #1 seed because we played them closer than they did. not every game is the same. I can prove any team is better than any other by that method. It's just a bad way to compare things.

I think Carey should be proud that the girls did some things well in that game. Despite the loss, they did some things well, and that should be a confidence builder. But losing less than someone else did is a terrible motivator. I don't want to encourage losing in any way, shape, or form.
#304155
You don't think a tough loss can be a motivator? I guarantee you our gals are thinking about mistakes they made in that game and how close they came to possibly being where Kentucky is now. You don't get that from a blowout against a team you may never play again.
#304157
Like you said, the mistakes they made, the things they did right. Those are things to inspire going further. "Being closer than Nebraska" shouldn't mean a thing to anyone. Losing means nothing. You said the same thing about Winthrop and the men. It's an excuse, not an inspiration. We lost. No two games are the same, you CAN'T compare them.

LU lost to GMU by 4. GMU beat ODU by 16. LU is better than ODU! Wait....
