The most successful program on Liberty Mountain deserves its own forum. We give Coach Green and the Lady Flames their props while breaking down their run to the Big Dance once again.

Coach Reeves is and always has been an intense coach. He is a good Christian man and will take Gardner-Webb to the "Big Dance" in the near future. Beating up on a coach after losing the tournament for two years in a row in very closely contested games shows no class. Applaud the Flames...congratulate GWU on a good season and leave the whining about who shook who's hand to the mentally challenged.

The only thing I really have against RR are his "dirty player" comments about Megan, which have been verified, and are IMHO inexcusible.

As far as his going to the dance any time in the near future; that path leads through LU, and if you ask me, this year was his best shot. We lose only Amber, and although she had a very good year, it appears that Dymond Morgan is right in line to step up and fulfill the same role. If Brittany and Kittery can come back healthy, and with the addition of Tolu Omotola, the post player who transferred from Houston as well as grayshirt freshman Emily Frazier, we should be much deeper. Of course, with our track record, stay tuned for reports of the next off-season torn ACL.

I politely disagree with you, and lean to agree with olldflame that this year was our best shot. We have a decent class coming in, but losing Roundtree is a killer, and losing Barnett for backcourt depth hurts as well.

I'm not sure that we made a bid for a home game in the WNIT or not....we'll probably draw the last team left out from the ACC, maybe VT.....hoo-frickin-ray.

For what it is worth ,it will be neat to see both Purdue and UNC come in here next season.

Regarding Brown's shot: I had about the same view as Rick did, that being far away from the play on the other end of the floor. Devon said that Monique Hudson stepped back, and if that's the case, then Hudson no longer has her position. Brown had good body control on the play and didn't lead with her elbows or anything. Hudson fell flopped trying to get the call -- as she should have -- but if she's moving, that's a no call.

I thought Hudson had beat her to the spot....but who cares at this point....like I said, we didn't belong in the game at all based on playing the first 30 minutes like we were bloated from coming straight to the gym from Sunday dinner on the grounds.....hopefully LU gets a good seed and gets to play closer to home so their fans can travel. 8)

Nah...you were just heading back to the food line to get more of that Cordon Bleu you were bragging about.

Like I told SuperJon in a PM, I'm going to be interested to see how the bright lights of the big dance effect LU's young depth....I know it won't even bother Devon in the least....if nobody tries to snatch her away from LU, she is going to pile up some sick stats and records over the next three years.

Devon has used her redshirt year. She would lose a year of eligibility if she transferred to another D1 program. Not gunna happen anyway. She's happy at LU and knows she has a great chance to win 4 championships here. Actually 5, if you count last year when she was with the team but didn't play.

If her goal is to play in the WNBA, unlike the Curry situation, there is no need to transfer elsewhere to improve pro prospects. The league has demonstrated that they are very much aware of us and our players by drafting 2 of them in the first round.

So disappointed they didn't bring the cordon bleu back for the championship. :(

Question for Lang. If I'm not mistaken, you are a voter for BSC awards. You don't have to tell us how you voted, but do you have any insight into how they picked anyone but Devon Brown for POY? When you look at the numbers, it's not close, and then watch her play, and she passes the "eye test". Is it just giving preference to upperclassmen or what?
#302610
The coaches in the league seem to not want to vote freshmen for this award. Roundtree was a poor choice. She's a good player. First team all-league for sure. But that's not the player of the year in this conference. It was Brown, and it wasn't even close. Terrible job by the voting panel. This is not me being homer, either. You need only to watch the games to know she was the best player on the floor in just about every game she played.

To keep beating a dead horse, and I actually have some experience in this area, I saw the play live, saw the replay and I have nothing close to a charge. I will agree that from RR's POV that it certainly LOOKED like one, but I am sure when he sees the angle the official had he will (grudgingly) change his mind.
As for GW being a powerhouse, the gist of the conversation was he has taken a team at the bottom of the Big South and made them the BSC regular season champions and a combined total of 4 points short of BSC Tourney Champions. I think that is a VERY laudible accomplishment.

The BSC has a history of making some very poor decisions for POY and MVP of conference tourneys, (including naming Peter Aluma MVP of the tourney his senior year, so I am not a blind homer here). You would think they could do much better, but then again look at the BSC leadership.

She is one tough cookie too! Seems like every women's game we attended this past season, she either hit the ground full force, jumped over a sideline chair with a person in it and then seemed to have injured her ankle in the semi-finals only to come back and win the championship and get MVP. It was so neat to hear the whole crowd gasp at one time :o

I don't remember the player's name (I think for High Point) who got the Player of the Year a few years ago, and he felt so bad about not deserving it, that he and his coach drove all the way up to LU and presented his POY trophy to Larry Blair in Convo.

jcmanson wrote:Danny Gathings, transfer from Va Tech. It was the tourney MVP, not season POY.
I remember that and was there when he presented the trophy to Larry during a convocation. Danny got a standing ovation by the whole student body. It was a very, very special moment and I believe this got first place in the BSC most memorable moments if I'm not mistaken. It got my vote!

Danny Gathing's selection as MVP in 04 was less a matter of poor judgement by the voters than it was stupid planning by the conference. The voting was done BEFORE the final, which is actually how they had done it for years without incident. Gathings played well in the quarter and semi finals, as did Larry and Gabe, and was as good a choice as any at that point. Of course, we all know what happened in the final.

To their credit, the BSC realized immediatly how bad it looked, and changed the rule to delay the voting for the women's MVP til after the final the same day. Gathings is still listed as the tournament MVP in the conference records. They say they can't change it. I do find it rather ironic that years after the fact they saw fit to use Danny's giving the trophy to Larry as one of the highlights of the first 25 years of the conference. When it happened, they didn't even acknowledge it on their website. I emailed them about it and they said Gathings can do whatever he wants with the trophy, but he was voted the MVP according to the rules at the time, and it wouldn't be changed.

If it were any other conference, would they have changed it? Just wondering.
