Not sure how we stopped all of that momentum. These last 4 BS championships have been nail biters. I think that if GW gets in the NCAA tourney as an at large (The announcers on MASN seem to think that it is possible) that would help our seeding greatly.

agree 100% with this statement. I was very puzzled as to why in the championship game with plenty if time left why we would take the starters out.
#302410
IMHO We are on a different level in ability from anyone else in our conference, including G-W. The problem is, the only way our ladies blow anyone out is if the other team gives up, (which happens a lot in the BSC). If they don't, when we get 15-20 points ahead, we let up and they stay in the game, or if they are as good and as tough as G-W, they come back. All I can say is...............THANK HEAVEN FOR DEVON!!!!
#302412
Jamie revealed that Devon actually finished 3rd in the POY voting. What a joke. The only thing I can figure is that some voters must have a policy of not voting for Freshmen, but that's stupid in the BSC where a redshirt like Devon can't be FOY.

She won tournament MVP, and Amber was on the all-tournament team.

I could gripe and moan about Devon's blatant charge on the game winning shot. However, I won't....we had absolutely no business being in the game at all at that point. LU won the game, period.....no debate required.

As for this talk of a G-W at-large....it is a steaming pile of horse manure. :BS The bottom line is an also-ran .500 club from the ACC or SEC or Big Least will bring more people and revenue to whatever first round site as opposed to little old G-W. We had a nice run this season, hard to get excited at this point about the WNIT.

ESPN Bracketology had us listed last evening as a #13 playing a #4 Kentucky in the first round. I think y'all will end up with a #14. Here's hoping for your fanbase that you get put into a site east of the Mississippi this year, but no way they put you guys in Norfolk.

Because you have absolutely no basis to say she charged. It was a complete flop. I was five feet away and have it on camera in HD. That was not under any circumstance a charge.
#302416
Hudson had position for a good two seconds before Devon ran in and left her feet into her. The game as a whole was called poorly on both sides IMHO. Both teams got screwed royally numerous times. It always boggles my mind when a baseline official does not make a call, but an official 40 feet away at midcourt will.....the one butch dyke female ref today is notorious for doing so.

Of course, if we would have doubled Devon in the first place after she inbounded the ball....well, you know about ifs and buts and merry Christmases....so be it.

But say yet again....read my first paragraph....we had no business being in that game at that point.

Let's see how LU's depth can match up with their opponent in the first round. At least you guys will avoid UConn, Tennessee, and Nebraska.
#302417
Oh, let me another rabbit.....a 1/2 matchup in the final, and the best the Big South can do for a halftime interview is a State Farm insurance agent? :dontgetit

Heck, they could have got SuperJon on there and had him talk about the weather in Lynchburg and it would have kept my interest. 8) Needless to say, I turned to the ACC and SEC games when I saw the agent beginning her sell.....

Enough griping for now....again, congrats to y'all. Let's go to work and make a penny or two.

g-webb 94, you are a good poster but please do not make excuses. no referee is going to blow the whistle and call a charge at the end of a championship game. after reading your post, i have looked at that play and i do not see how you could say it was a charge. GW is a solid team and had a great comeback but it was not in the cards today. LU showed why they have been dominant in the big south and certainly won the game that really counts.

Another class act by Coach Reeves to only accept a hug from Coach Green, then not shake any of the other LU's coaches hands. Then, he waved his team like a round up to the locker room like a sore loser. Thank God that prick lost... On top of that, when the G-W team came to the huddle during their comeback, he was out on the floor pumping fists and acting like a complete fool. I almost wanted to throw him my pom pom's... It is was amusing to see sour puss walk off the floor. Its too bad the 20 point comeback fell short.

...and Coach Reeves, Thank You for letting Devon get the ball at the end. Only the whole place knew she was going to get the ball... Better luck next year!

The game was on tv when we got to our hotel room so we sat and watched it. These commentators were very good, very thorough and clear in their comments. Never showed sides so at the end when Devon made the winning shot they gave no kind of indication about a charge or anything and I know they would have said something. They showed the replay several times and the commentators never said anything. Don't you think they would have?

Yeah, wouldn't want a coach to show enthusiasm for their team in a championship game or anything. And any coach who loses a close game should have nothing but smiles and roses around him.
I didn't see the post game handshakes but are you saying he just stood there while the LU team walked by with his arms folded? I find that hard to believe.
As for the last play, I am fairly certain Coach Reeves wasn't on the floor. And DB hit a pretty tough shot with two people on her. GW did a great job of keeping her out of the lane and making her settle for an intermediate jump shot.
You are obviously an idiot. Coach Reeves took a pathetic LU team in the 90's and made them into the powerhouse of the conference. Did the same with GW, so you MIGHT want to cut him some slack. As for him being a prick you obviously don't know him and keep the personal attacks to yourself

Yea, when we called time out once we got past half court and saw that Devon was going to throw the ball in, I knew it would go right back to her for the winning shot.

Yea, Green outcoached Reeves on that play, and I loved it! Everyone in the gym knew Devon was taking the last shot, and G-W could do nothing to stop her. Play Basketball

The first words out of Rick Reeves' mouth after he left the post game interview room were that of congratulations towards our three girls sitting there waiting to be interviewed. You can like him or dislike him, but he was about as polite as you can be after that type of loss.
#302451

Actually...The LU players were celebrating...both coaching staffs immediately met at half court to exchange hand shakes. After the head coaches exchanged, your boy just turned around and walked off as his assistants congratulated the entire coaching staff.

But I am sure if GW won, then your boy would have shook all the hands of the coaches, the LU cheerleaders, and Sparky.

By the way, that powerhouse at Gardner Webb, how many championships do they have in the last 2 years. Stop living in the 90's!

Love, The Idiot!

Every since Coach Reeves left LU I have found him to be a class act. Whenever I have run into him he has been very gracious and professional. When he got the GW job and had to come back to Liberty to play I felt he handled it all very well. He has certainly proven himself to be a great coach. With that being said, I don't really understand some of the things he has done and said recently. last year there was the "Meagan Frazee/dirty player" comments and now the actions this year. Maybe it's just the intensity and competitiveness of the rivalry, but it does tend to bother me a bit. Maybe its just that in my dealings with coach Reeves my expectation is set a little higher.
#302454
Yeh, every issue LU has had with him has been in the heat of the moment....very few have come after having time to process his actions. The part that bothers me is the sense I get of, I can do anything then say sorry after. But again, always in the heat of the moment not an excuse but it is what it is.

Glad to see us pull it out
#302457
Its true, a lot of head coaches (all too many, imo) feel that their actions in the heat of a competitive moment are always excusable. I've heard many say things to the effect of, "You can't hold me fully accountable for how I behave during a game. Don't take it personally." Maybe my perspective will change someday, but for now I disagree. I can understand why it happens. But it doesn't excuse it, only explains it. Subtle difference.

As regards this specific case, I watched the game today (interests on both sides), and nothing I saw during the game by Reeves (coaching team, pumping fists, etc.) was wrong. I can also personally verify SJ's comments about Reeves' congratulatory attitude after post-game interviews. As regards the hand shake, what makes him obligated to shake all staff's hands afterward? To me, the whole post-game team/staff handshake has been kind of disingenuous for years now.
#302466
Well any coach who shakes everyone of the opponents hands when victorius should be gracious enough to shake everyones hands even after a loss, no matter how bitter the defeat is. It is called being respectful.
#302469
Lang quoted Reeves at the end of a very fine article in the local fishwrap. Of course, Reeves couldn't just say that his team had a good run in the second half but lost to the better team.

Instead, Reeves had to use the "C" word:
Reeves had a different opinion of Brown’s game-winning shot, the first of her career. The Virginia High School League’s all-time leading scorer, Brown never hit a game winner during her time at Waynesboro High.

“I thought Brown charged. I thought it was an obvious charge,” Reeves said. “But it’s not going to get called in that situation with a game-winning basket. I’m angry. I’m upset. But that’s life.”
