Looking at the latest poll numbers, George Washington is ranked 9th which would put them at a 2 or 3 seed in the tourney if the Selection Committee followed rankings. We played them close and lost by single digits at their place. Right now, we're looking at a 15 or 14 seed in the tourney. I'm not saying we're going to upset anyone, or even make the tourney as High Point still has a very good chance at knocking us off, but IF we do make it, and based on how closely we've played top 25 teams on their home courts...what are the chances of a first round upset? (Keep in mind that #16 Harvard Lady-whatevertheyare are the only #16 seed to ever win an NCAA tourney game)

I don't think so. We gave it everything we had at 14 and still came up short with, what I think, had the best player in BS history on the woman's side, IMO.

I'm going to say something that is going to come across as sexist (and perhaps it is). But having covered womens college basketball for many, many years I can tell you that you never know what is going to happen when you have a bunch of 18- to 22-year-old girls together. We are good enough that if we play really well and the high seed is having "issues" then I wouldn't rule anything out.

Now commence tearing me to shreds.

maybe you have a point Sly...I don't know, but with the limited knowledge I have of women's college basketball it seems as if the lower seeds don't have a much of a shot...the talent isn't as deep as it is in the men's tournament where upsets are common...its hard to believe that the women will ever have a George Mason like run....but i guess you never know

SMS made a Final Four run... they had Jackie Stiles who was amazing, but it was similar to George Mason's run.

GW will probably get a 3 or 4 because the committee doesn't show a lot of love to non BCS teams.

We have to get there first, but as far as beating a 2 or 3... there will be a big difference between the two groups. The two seeds are tough... Maryland may very well be a two. Between Tenn, UCONN, UNC, Duke, Maryland, Ohio State and LSU... three will be "2" seeds. Not a group you want to play.

3 seeds are more beatable.... Arizona St., Georgia, maybe GW... not easy but a better chance. If we win out we would have a very good case for a 14 seed. If we struggle but win the tournament then hello LSU or Maryland.

At least with the new "semi" neutral sites... unless we land UCONN or Stanford, we wouldn't be playing on someone's home floor. Pitt, Mich St., NC State and a few others get to host, but we wouldn't be in line to play any of them. First things first though... we have some work to do. We need to finish strong just to make sure that the NIT is a back-up plan. 3rd place and you would be in the dark... I don't think that will happen, but lets not put the cart in front of Seabiscuit, let's win on Sat.

You just dont see things like LU did (Sweet 16) in Women's like you do in Men's

We've had this discussion before I think...the drop off b/t the top 10 schools and the rest of the country is HUGE compared to the drop off b/t the men

I'd love for some stat boy to post the records against unranked opponents for men and women...I would think that would support this argument...who knows
