I doubt the selection com. would care about a single vote... it may have been Jeri at Radford or Rick at GW that gave us a 25 spot. A vote would just mean that one coach put us at 25 in their ballot. Not a big deal.
Which brings up a point that bothers me... a team gets a few votes and people start saying that they are the 35th ranked team or so on. I'm sure someone somewhere saw us get a vote and counted the teams getting votes and said that we are tied for 46th in the country or whatever.
Now if you are one of the teams just out of the poll then you can say... "Team X was the first team out of the top 25 with 5 less votes than the 25th ranked team"... that's fine... but if a team receives 6 votes, it isn't right to count down and say... "Team Y is the 32nd ranked team in the country."
It's a top 25, there is no 32nd ranked team... there is no way of knowing if the voters were asked to fill out a ballot for the "top 32" that the same team would be there. There were many times that we got single digit votes a few years ago and people were saying that we were the 30th ranked team... when if the coaches that voted were asked to name a top 30, there is no way we would have made enough ballots to get 30th.
Think of it like this... if we did a poll of the top 25 bands of all time and had people on this board vote... let's say that Medic voted K-Fed as his 20th fav and he got 6 votes and was in the "others receiving votes"... it wouldn't be right to say he came in 30th, b/c if we voted for a Top 30 bands of all time he wouldn't make it into that group... once again he might get votes but not break the top 30. One coach could vote us 18th and it would give us 8 votes but ultimately it wouldn't mean anything.
Don't get me wrong... getting votes is better than not getting votes, but until you are at least sniffing the 25th team, it is meaningless.
Sorry... I know that's off topic... it always bothered me though.
